Interact closely with bioinformaticians from the Bioinformatics Platform, and collaborate with engineers from the ICT team, to deploy and set up the HPC infrastructure at Sciensano.
Coordination of the installation, upgrade, migration or removal of server Hardware in the data centre.
Setting up, configuring, and maintaining an HPC cluster including software needed for analyses and a scheduler for the submission of jobs.
Develop, test and optimize automatic deployment scripts using Ansible.
Monitor technical alerts, errors and warnings, and performance of the servers/cluster and taking preventative actions.
User administration and investigation, and mitigation of issues related to access permissions of both systems and data.
Deployment and updates of software needed for scientific analyses.
Periodic maintenance including updates of firmware, operating system and other software.
Training of other scientists in the use of the HPC infrastructure.
Assisting other scientists with their needs related to their specific research problems.
Profile
Master in computer engineering or computer sciences, or equivalent by experience
Experience as a systems engineer in a Linux-based environment (hypervisor and bare metal)
Previous exposure to at least some of the following domains and technologies
Network Storage
Network architecture (e.g. DNS, DHCP, Cisco)
Linux file systems
Virtualization (e.g. VMware, Proxmox)
High-performance technologies such as the SLURM job scheduler, and the Weka distributed file system
Monitoring (e.g. Nagios)
Databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
Web servers (e.g. Apache, NGINX)
Containerization (e.g. Docker, singularity)
Scripting language (e.g. Bash, Python)
Version Control (e.g. GIT)
Environment module systems (e.g. lmod)
English language proficiency and proficiency in Dutch and/or French.
