Job Title: Freelance Project Manager

Location: Brussels, Belgium (on-site with some flexibility)

Contract Type: Freelance / Independent Consultant

Contract Duration: Initial 12 months (with potential extension)

We are looking for an experienced freelance project manager to lead a brownfield warehouse expansion. Must be competent with electrical systems and automation technology.

This company is a household name within the fashion industry and is looking to automate most of its production pipeline. My client is looking to revolutionise its production capabilities and expand its market share hold.

Key responsibilities

. Lead the delivery of a brownfield textiles expansion project from initiation through to commissioning, focusing on electrical and automation scope

. oversee the design and implementation of low and medium voltage distribution, control systems, PLCs, SCADA, and factory automation infrastructure

. Coordinate with EPC contractors, equipment vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with project objectives, technical standards, and timelines.

. Manage project schedule and budget, reporting regularly on progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.

. Ensure compliance with Belgian regulations, food industry standards (e.g. HACCP, GMP), and company-specific engineering specifications.

. Drive commissioning and startup activities, ensuring operational readiness and smooth handover to production teams.

Requirements:

Proven experience managing large-scale Greenfield or Brownfield capital projects in the textiles or FMCG industry.

Strong background in electrical engineering, automation, and process control systems.

Relevant qualifications (e.g. Electrical/Automation Engineering degree); PMP or equivalent certification is an advantage.

Hands-on experience with industrial automation platforms (e.g. Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider).

Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams, vendors, and site contractors.

Familiarity with Belgian/EU electrical standards and food manufacturing compliance.

Fluent in English (Dutch or French is a plus).
