General Manager

Company Description
The Mekong Club is a Hong Kong-registered charity working with the private sector towards a common cause—to empower businesses to create a slave-free world. We are a membership-based organisation that supports companies in embedding sustainable labour practices in global value chains. Through member benefits, tools, training and collaborative initiatives, we drive responsible sourcing, sustainable economic development and social impact in Asia, inspiring corporate action to eliminate and prevent modern slavery in their supply chains. We support SDG Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
The Role
To scale The Mekong Club's impact with the private sector and support sustained action against modern slavery, we are strengthening our organisation from the inside out. We are seeking a General Manager (GM) to join our team at this pivotal moment and serve as the internal leadership engine of The Mekong Club.
Reporting to the CEO, the GM will be responsible for translating strategic priorities into operational reality. While the CEO focuses on external leadership, you will lead day-to-day operations—optimising internal systems, refining financial and people processes and enabling high-performing, mission-aligned teams.
The role is critical to ensuring that TMC operates efficiently, compliantly and at scale, with the organisational infrastructure required to deliver long-term, sustainable impact.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic planning, execution & leadership
- Work with the CEO to translate organisational strategy and key performance indicators (KPIs) into clear operational plans and delivery frameworks.
- Support the CEO and Board in strategic planning, performance reporting and periodic internal reviews.
- Serve on the Senior Leadership Team and act as the primary liaison between staff and the Board, managing all meeting cycles and governance follow-ups.
2. People, culture & HR
- Foster a cohesive, values-led culture through team development, performance planning and capacity building.
- Centralise HR functions (recruitment, onboarding, staff development) into a streamlined \"HR Hub.\"
- Design scalable team structures and implement succession planning to build organisational resilience.
- Support hiring and management of team members, motivating and empowering them through effective delegation and professional development.
3. Financial & resource management
- Co-develop and regularly review annual budgets and financial projections with the CEO and Finance Manager.
- Oversee resource allocation to ensure cost-efficiency and alignment with strategic priorities.
- Manage relationships with outsourced service providers including legal, IT and other vendors.
- Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and maintain the integrity of financial data and reporting.
4. Operational governance & compliance
- Coordinate day-to-day workflows and cross-team collaboration, identifying and resolving operational gaps.
- Enhance and further embed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to safeguard institutional productivity and facilitate knowledge transfer.
- Ensure legal compliance with all relevant laws and regulations applicable to TMC.
- Support effective Board governance, including the maintenance of records, statutory filings and regulatory documentation.
- Embed non-profit and sustainability best practices to ensure TMC operates to the highest ethical and professional standards.
Experience & qualifications
- Track record: Minimum 8 years of experience in general management, operations, or program delivery.
- Sector expertise: Experience in the NGO, social enterprise, or purpose-led sector is preferred.
- Technical breadth: Proven success managing HR, finance, vendor relationships and compliance.
- Thematic knowledge: Familiarity with human rights, ESG, or anti-trafficking is highly regarded.
What we offer
- The opportunity to help lead a mission-driven organisation creating tangible impact.
- A dynamic, purpose-led environment that values innovation and collaboration.
- A supportive team culture with space to grow and help shape the organisation's future.
- A competitive salary, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package including:
· Employee health insurance coverage, effective from your employment start date
· Flexible working
· 20 days annual leave
Our final offer will be based on the successful candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications.
