Purpose of the role
- Support Serco Europe's strategy and growth agenda through structured research and analysis
- Contribute to early-stage M&A pipeline development via target identification, research and initial screening
- Strengthen MD Office outputs by preparing clear, decision-ready reports
- Provide delegated support to the Business & Strategy team on data gathering, analysis and preparation of draft materials
- Focus on Serco Europe markets and opportunities in continental Europe
Key responsibilities
Strategy research
- Conduct market, customer and competitor research across Serco Europe's priority sectors
- Monitor policy, regulatory and industry trends in Europe relevant to Serco
- Summarise findings and draft concise briefings and insight notes for the Business & Strategy team and MD Office
M&A target research and screening
- Identify potential M&A targets aligned with Serco Europe's strategic priorities
- Collect and structure data on target companies (size indicators, services, markets, capabilities, positioning, ownership)
- Prepare simple profiles and initial comparisons between potential targets to support shortlisting
- Support maintenance of basic M&A pipeline overviews and trackers where appropriate
MD Office and reporting support
- Support preparation of reports, dashboards and slide decks for the leadership team
- Structure data and insights into clear, visual formats such as charts, tables and executive summaries
Collaboration and ways of working
- Work closely with Business & Strategy, M&A and MD Office colleagues, collaborating with stakeholders across Serco Europe
- Participate in internal meetings and contribute with well-prepared insights and research
- Manage tasks in a structured, reliable way and maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times, in line with Serco policies and GDPR
Candidate profile – skills and attributes - Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to synthesise complex information into clear outputs
- Comfortable working with data and open-source information from reports, websites and databases
- Good PowerPoint and Excel skills with an eye for clear, visual presentation of information
- Clear written and verbal communication in English; additional European languages are an advantage
- High attention to detail and quality in analysis and formatting
- Proactive, structured, curious and able to work independently with guidance
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, international environment and managing multiple tasks in parallel
Valuable experience and learning from this internship (3month placement) - Practical exposure to real-world strategy work in a leading international services organisation
- Hands-on experience in market, competitor and policy analysis across European markets
- Insight into how corporate and business unit strategies are developed, reviewed and implemented
- Experience contributing to early-stage M&A target research, screening and profiling
- Development of analytical, problem-solving and business storytelling skills, especially in Excel and PowerPoint
- Understanding of how a Managing Director's Office and Business & Strategy function operate and support senior decision-making
- Experience preparing concise reports, dashboards and executive summaries for senior stakeholders
- Improved ability to structure and communicate complex information clearly and visually
- Collaboration with a multicultural, cross-functional European team and exposure to senior leaders in the region
