The English and Media Faculty
The English and Media Faculty teach a bespoke curriculum at Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9,) that is carefully designed to give our students a thorough knowledge base in our subject and to inspire a love for reading, writing and oracy. We liaise closely with the BSB Primary School to ensure curriculum continuity and we teach to the iGCSE Edexcel specification at Key Stage 4 (Years At Key Stage 5 (Years 12-13), we teach Edexcel Literature A Level and AQA Media Studies A Level, as well as offering the IB Literature course at Higher Level and the Language and Literature course at Standard Level.

The English & Media Faculty achieves excellent results in external examinations. At GCSE level, almost all candidates are presently entered for both English Language and Literature, or for English as a Second Language, where required.

We work closely with the EAL and AEN department to ensure provision for students with English as an additional language, or additional educational needs, is appropriate.

As a faculty, we want our students to be excellent communicators, active listeners and critical thinkers, able to voice their ideas coherently and to understand that diversity in culture and experience, makes us all stronger.

We welcome staff who are self-reflective, collaborative and keen to support the development of the curriculum and our ethos.

Your Role:

The ideal candidate should be able to offer English within the Secondary School age range 11-14 years old. The ability to teach at least one of our exam courses of the GCSE, 'A' level and IB may be an advantage, but not essential for this maternity post.

Your Profile:

A candidate is sought who will:

  • value strong relationships with students, colleagues and parents to create a climate for excellence in learning

  • set the highest standards in terms of teaching and learning, inspiring the very best from all students

  • work closely with faculty colleagues in creating a sense of cohesion and collaboration within the faculty, as well as co-operate with colleagues across faculties and throughout the school
  • be attuned to current developments in the teaching of English and wider classroom pedagogy
  • be actively involved in professional learning within the faculty and across faculties where opportunities arise, including after-school meetings, relevant courses and professional learning days
  • be appreciative of the values of an international school community and students' differing cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • be willing and able to contribute wholeheartedly to the social development of students and to the extra-curricular life of the school, including taking part in school residential trips
  • have good ICT skills, (knowledge of Microsoft OneNote and Teams is an advantage), apply these in the classroom and actively contribute to the department's virtual learning environment
  • the school takes safeguarding children very seriously, with all staff being subjected to rigorous checks from the interview process onwards.
