Competition Paralegal (Brussels) - 12 month FTC


ROLE OVERVIEW //


We are recruiting for a Competition Paralegal to join the Competition (Brussels) Department.


Slaughter and May has an extensive competition and regulatory practice. We have an outstanding reputation in merger control, antitrust, competition litigation, market investigations, State aid and regulatory work.


The paralegal’s duties include working closely with other fee-earning members of the group, providing ongoing support on a range of different matters as well as dealing with ad hoc queries. The paralegal also occasionally assists the group’s Knowledge Lawyers and contributes to the development and maintenance of content on the knowhow and intranet system. There is a significant administrative aspect to this role.


Our competition practice includes 100 lawyers based in London, Brussels, Beijing and Hong Kong. They are all specialists in competition and sectoral regulatory law.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES //


The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed. You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.


  • Check that content submitted by fee earners and others conform to data quality standards and house styles prior to release.
  • Add, edit and withdraw content to and from the knowhow and intranet systems promptly and accurately;
  • Deal with enquiries from those working with the knowhow and intranet systems.
  • Take an active role in sourcing, and putting in place solutions to improve the capture of knowhow content.
  • Provide support with the practice area, e.g reviewing documents and working on projects as required.
  • Assist with ad hoc research enquiries for fee earners.
  • Help draft research notes and briefings on legal and policy developments.
  • Arrange the agenda for the weekly group meeting.
  • Assist with the production of Legal Directory Submissions.
  • Coordinate arrangements for group training and external events.
  • Assist with updating group research tools and practice guides.
  • Assist with updating internal know-how.




CANDIDATE PROFILE //


Candidates for this position must have:


  • A high level of IT literacy including MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint experience;
  • The ability to communicate effectively to all levels of staff, including lawyers, secretaries and business services; and
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
