An excellent opportunity has become available for a Chief Accountant to join my client, an international pharmaceutical company based in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing organization with an annual turnover of €2 billion.
Responsibilities:
- Manage financial and accounting activities and employees in this work area.
- Perform documentary and financial control of accounting documentation (proper distribution of documents, approvals of costs by responsible persons in line with adopted matrix of authorisations, ensure reliable documentation etc.).
- Record business events in the information system and close reporting period in the information system.
- Calculate salaries, travel expenses and other refunds for the employees.
- Account material and cash management.
- Post fixed assets and calculate the depreciation.
- Calculate taxes, deferred taxes, contributions and other legal obligations in line with local legislation.
- Prepare financial statements and reports on business operations in line with local accounting standards and other regulations and in line with IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and the clients accounting policies for consolidation purposes.
- Prepare different reports, analyses on business operations for the needs of the company’s management and/or supervisory bodies.
- Prepare the plan and estimates of the company and monitoring the company’s costs on regular basis.
- Implementation of internal accounting controls.
- Preparation of country file in accordance with the clients transfer pricing policy.
- Organise the annual inventory of assets and liabilities.
- Participate in external and internal audit, tax and possible other reviews and controls.
- Ensure the archiving of documentation in accordance with local regulations.
- Monitor the local accounting and tax legislation and regulations on regular basis.
Required Experience:
- University degree in Economics, Business Administration, or a related field, with a major in Accounting and Finance.
- Several years of experience working as a Chief Accountant within an international environment
- Proven experience in accounting and finance, preferably within an international company.
- Strong command of local GAAP and IFRS standards.
- Expertise in fixed assets, inventory management, payroll, and relevant legislation.
- Solid understanding of Belgian financial and payroll regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in timely group and statutory reporting.
- In-depth knowledge of tax laws and accounting standards.
- Hands-on experience in tax and levy calculations, and payroll processing.
- Proficient in ERP systems (Dynamics 365 Business Central is a plus).
- Skilled in internet banking.
- Fluent in English and Dutch (spoken and written).
- Intermediate knowledge of French is an advantage.
