RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the day-to-day operation, development, and outreach of the Shape International Library's Makerspace and Learning Center.

Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative environment for patrons of all ages and backgrounds.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Engage and assist Patrons: to provide hands-on guidance and support to all Makespace users-from toddlers to adults-ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for exploration and learning. Instruct patrons on the proper and creative use of a wide range of tools, technologies, and equipment available in the Makerspace.

Demontrate passion for making: show enthusiasm for learning new skills, experimenting with tools, asking questions, and continuously improving both personal and patron experiences.

Promote safety: Enforce and model safety protocols when using equipment such as 3D printers, heat press, engraving or woodworking tools.

Build inclusive community: Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and create an environment that is welcoming. Work with library staff, educators, artists, and community groups to integrate Makerspace programming into broader library services and outreach efforts.

Promote the Makerspace: Actively promote Makerspace programs and activities. Represent the Makerspace at library events and community outreach opportunities as needed.

Excited to learn: Take initiative to learn new machines, robots, computer software, etc,… and creates environments for patrons to learn.

Multilingual communication: Speaking additional languages-particularly French- is a plus, enhancing accessibility for our international community.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and monitor inventory of tools, materials, and supplies.
  • Perform general organizational duties, including restocking, cleaning, and maintaining the space.
  • Cleaning the space before and after closing - Inventorying and maintaining the various toolkits and workstations in the space
  • Recommend and research new tools, technologies, and trends to ensure the Makerspace stays innovative and aligned with community interests.
  • Ensure all activities are in compliance with library policies and procedures

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Experience in an educational setting, delivering education programs.
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse, international audience in a collaborative, inclusive environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong commitment to lifelong learning.

Preferred:

  • Minimun of 1 years'experience working in a makerspace, arts & crafts center, innovation hub,or similar setting.
  • Hands-on experience with maker tools such as 3D printers, button/badge makers, and heat press.
  • Stong interpersonal, communication, and instructional skills.
  • Teaching or facilitation experience, especially in a science, technology, engineering or math field. Experience with Adobe Suite. Experience with Microsoft Suite including Publisher.
  • Experience with 3D printing software and tools such as Thingiverse, TinkerCad and more.
