About the Role

Our client is seeking a Senior System Engineer for a high-impact, freelance assignment in Brussels. As a key builder, you'll architect, optimize, and secure mission-critical infrastructure, driving the evolution of both new and existing systems. Key Responsibilities

• Manage, maintain, and upgrade hypervisors and virtualization platforms.
• Configure, deploy, and administer Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, Debian, Redhat).
• Ensure system and data security, performance, and high availability.
• Diagnose and resolve complex system issues, proactively suggesting improvements.
• Lead or supervise installation and maintenance activities.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
• Contribute to the strategic evolution of technology solutions.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code, automating VMware deployments.
• Collaborate as a team player while excelling independently.
• Own assigned tasks, assess risks, and seek guidance when needed.
• Demonstrate initiative, advanced problem-solving, and a drive for continuous learning.

Technical Skills & Experience

• Minimum 10 years of experience as a System Administrator.
• At least 5 years managing Windows and Linux operating systems and system software.
• Proven expertise with virtualization technologies and management tools (VMware).
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code for VMware automation.
• Confirmed experience as an IT System Engineer.
• In-depth understanding of mobile telecommunication technologies.

Language Proficiency

• Fluent in either Dutch or French, with a solid understanding of the other language.
• Strong command of written and spoken technical English.

Other Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or 5–10 years of relevant professional experience.
• Analytical, pragmatic, and solution-oriented mindset.
• Curious, enthusiastic, and eager to learn.
• Discrete and stress-resistant under pressure.
• 'TOP SECRET' level security clearance required (as per the law of 11/12/1998 on classification, security clearances, attestations, and notices).
• On-site role in Brussels (no remote option).

This is a freelance position for a 3-month project based in Brussels.
