Photonics Design Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Photonics Design Engineer to join our cutting-edge team. In this role, you will contribute to the development of advanced photonic integrated circuits (PICs), from concept and modeling through to layout and validation. You will work closely with internal teams and customers to design innovative solutions that drive future technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and layout photonic components and integrated circuits.
• Develop and implement models to simulate device and circuit behaviour.
• Set up and execute design-of-experiment (DOE) methodologies; analyse and interpret test data.
• Translate customer specifications into robust system-level concepts and PIC architectures.
• Enhance and refine existing silicon photonics platforms.
• Maintain and update design documentation, libraries, and standard procedures.

Location: Leuven, Flemish Region, Belgium

Required Skills and Qualifications

• PhD (or equivalent) in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in silicon photonics design.
• Deep understanding of integrated photonics and its practical applications.
• Proven experience in designing, optimizing, and laying out silicon photonic components and circuits.
• Proficiency in photonic simulation tools such as Lumerical .
• Skilled in photonic layout software such as Luceda IPKISS , Cadence , or L-Edit . (Experience with IPKISS is a strong advantage).
