Job Title: Team Leader QC Operations – Microbiology Laboratory


Reports to: Supervisor QC Operations Team


Position Objective

As a QC Operations Team Leader, you play a key role in planning, organizing, and executing the release process to ensure ongoing compliance within your department. You are also responsible for operational coordination of the microbiology laboratory, ensuring that laboratory activities are conducted in accordance with regulatory standards and internal procedures.

You actively promote and enforce Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and Good Documentation Practice (GDP) standards. Your leadership fosters a motivated, well-trained, and efficient team (5 persons), with a strong awareness of quality, compliance, and microbiological control.


Key Responsibilities


Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, motivate, and evaluate (Senior) Laborants and Analysts to maintain a qualified and high-performing team.

• Ensure proper onboarding and integration of new team members.

• Identify training needs and coordinate development plans with relevant departments.

• Conduct performance and development evaluations.


Operational Management

• Supervise day-to-day operations of the microbiology laboratory, ensuring timely and accurate execution of tests (e.g., environmental monitoring, bioburden, endotoxins).

• Plan and organize daily activities to ensure continuity of the release process and laboratory workflows.

• Assign and follow up on tasks, ensuring timelines and priorities are met.

• Manage team schedules and ensure adequate staffing levels.

• Support recruitment efforts through interviews and candidate evaluation.

• Facilitate and lead daily Tier 1 team meetings.


Quality & Compliance

• Promote and monitor compliance with GMP, GLP, GDP (ALCOA+) standards in all lab activities.

• Ensure a safe, well-maintained, and compliant working environment in line with health and safety regulations.

• Supervise the review and approval of microbiology lab documents, logbooks, and procedures.

• Ensure proper execution and documentation of microbiological methods and controls.

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to optimize microbiology lab performance, quality, and efficiency, including assessments for change controls.

Provide support in investigations on deviations and out-of-specifications.


Collaboration & Communication

• Serve as the main point of contact for your team and ensure alignment with other team leaders, coordinators, and line managers.

• Communicate relevant microbiological risks and trends proactively.

• Actively participate in cross-functional projects aimed at qualitative and quantitative improvement.


Candidate Profile

• Master's degree (preferably in Microbiology, Pharmacy, Biology, Biochemistry, or related fields).

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role, ideally within the pharmaceutical industry.

• Hands-on experience with microbiological techniques and lab supervision.

• Solid knowledge of GMP, GLP, and GDP (ALCOA+) guidelines.

• Proficient with SAP.

• Fluent in French or Dutch, with good written and spoken English.

• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; team-oriented and communicative.

• Well-organized, analytical, and capable of managing priorities.

• Customer- and service-oriented.

• Resilient under pressure and results-driven.
