Ortelius is looking for a macroeconomist to strengthen its consulting team
We seek a candidate interested in various fields within macroeconomics, eager to upskill where needed, and with a strong affinity for communicating about macroeconomic trends. You will be part of the Ortelius team, a spin-off of the Econopolis group that focuses on economic consulting. The Ortelius team is a young and dynamic group that has already worked on high-profile projects such as the socio-economic impact study of the Einstein Telescope for Flanders, a cost-benefit analysis of Belgium’s coastal protection strategy, and the development of a European strategic vision on critical raw materials for electric vehicle batteries. Your role will be more focused on the macroeconomic aspects of consulting assignments.
Your mission

- Communicate about macroeconomic trends, both through our own blog and through presentations.
- Take a leading role in the development of our economic software tool (to map business ecosystems). This includes identifying necessary developments, communicating with our software team, and commercialising the tool.
- Monitor the latest macroeconomic trends.
- To be in contact with internal and external experts.
- Search for new projects for the further development of our consulting branch. You will write tenders for new projects.
Who you are
- You have a strong interest in various areas of macroeconomics, including labor market, real estate, public finance, financial markets, etc.
- You have an affinity for software tools and are eager to take ownership of the (functional) development of our proprietary economic tool.
- You have a Master’s degree in Economics, Business Engineering, Applied Economics or an equivalent academic degree.
- You have a strong affinity for communication, both written and verbal. You are able to express yourself in a diplomatic and unbiased manner.
- Quantitative modelling skills are a plus (R, Python, etc.)
- At least 2-5 years of experience in an economic function
- You have the ability to work independently.
What we offer
An attractive and open working environment in which people are supported to be self-starting and given freedom to develop their skills. Roles within Ortelius are defined but we offer significant flexibility to evolve. You will be working with an entrepreneurial team that is a mix of young talent and seasoned professionals.
