About News Media Europe

News Media Europe represents the interests of the European news media sector towards the institutions of the European Union. Our mission is to uphold and promote media freedom, support a sustainable digital transformation of the press sector, and protect the value of journalistic content in a rapidly evolving policy environment.

We work closely with EU institutions and stakeholders to advance the role of professional news media as a pillar of democracy and a cornerstone of the European creative economy.

The Role

We are currently seeking a motivated and capable colleague to join our Brussels-based team. The successful candidate will play a key role in our policy and advocacy work on media freedom and sustainability, including copyright.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyse EU policy and legislative developments relevant to the news media sector;
  • Provide concise and timely updates and briefings to members;
  • Conduct legal and policy research on issues around media freedom and sustainability, including copyright.
  • Support the preparation of position papers, consultation responses, and internal reports;
  • Represent News Media Europe at relevant events, conferences, and stakeholder meetings;
  • Contribute to our public communication, including social media activity;
  • Perform general administrative and organisational tasks as part of a small, hands-on team.

Profile

We are looking for someone with:

  • Up to four years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a legal, policy or EU affairs setting;
  • A strong interest in EU law and policy, particularly in areas relating to copyright, technology, and/or media freedom;
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills in English (native or equivalent);
  • Confidence and clarity when representing an organisation externally;
  • A collaborative spirit, proactive attitude, and willingness to take initiative;
  • An organised and pragmatic approach to daily work in a small, dynamic team.

Desirable

  • Prior experience working with or within EU institutions;
  • Affinity with the European creative sector;
  • Additional European languages.

What We Offer

  • A full-time, Brussels-based opportunity to work on high-profile EU policy files that impact the future of journalism and democracy in Europe;
  • A stimulating, collegial, and flexible work environment within a small but ambitious organisation;
  • The chance to take on responsibility and grow within the role;
  • A competitive remuneration package and benefits, aligned with experience and qualifications.
