Salary: ~$120k USD (paid in RMB; range equivalent to 500k–1.2M RMB)
Equity: 0.2% - 1.5% of Mentra Labs, Inc. (USA company equity)
Location: Shenzhen, China
Reports to: VP Operations and CEO

About Mentra:
Lead operations in China for Mentra. Our team has worked with MIT, Google, Nike, Tsinghua, etc., and we're building Mentra Live smart glasses and MentraOS operating system. We build the only smart glasses you can wear all day, and the only smart glasses with an app store.
Role Description:
Own compliance, logistics, HR, finance, team leadership, and international communications. This is a high ownership position.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a senior Head of Operations, China to own and run all China-based operations for a fast-growing hardware company shipping consumer electronics globally.
This role is hands-on, end-to-end, and requires deep experience operating inside the Chinese hardware ecosystem. You will be responsible for compliance, team leadership, manufacturing execution, supplier management, logistics, compliance coordination, and day-to-day operational leadership.
Core Responsibilities:
Manufacturing & Supply Chain
Be a strong leader and decision maker that can run our China office. You will be person #1 when our CEO is not in Shenzhen
Serve as primary point of contact of Mentra China
Own relationships with CM(s), ODMs, and key component suppliers
Help our Head of Hardware with production planning, NPI, EVT/DVT/PVT, ramp, and mass production, resolve factory issues
Identify risks early and proactively solve them
Bring structure, clarity, and discipline to complex, fast-moving situations
Quality & Reliability:
Own quality systems across manufacturing and suppliers
Oversee failure analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement
Ensure product meets reliability, regulatory, and customer expectations
Logistics & Fulfillment:
Manage international logistics (air, ocean, DDP/DDU)
Coordinate shipments to 3PLs and global fulfillment partners
Anticipate and mitigate customs, documentation, and transit risks
Regulatory & Compliance Coordination:
Help spearhead China cloud software launch - algorithm filings, ICP, China cloud deployments
Partner with internal and external teams on FCC, FDA, CE, and other certifications
Ensure labeling, documentation, and factory processes are compliant
Required Experience:
2+ years in hardware operations with significant China experience
Proven track record shipping consumer hardware at scale
Deep understanding of compliance - China software, software legal compliance (ICP, MIIT, etc.), regulatory (FCC, CE, etc.) especially for foreign-owned company (WFOE)
Familiarity with Shenzhen manufacturing ecosystem
Strong experience with:
Contract manufacturing & supplier negotiations
Production ramp and yield management
International logistics and customs
Comfortable operating in ambiguity and high-pressure environments
Skills & Attributes:
Operator mindset: decisive, practical, execution-focused
Strong communicator across Chinese and Western teams
Detail-oriented but not bureaucratic
Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English (you will be tested)
Willing to be on factory floors, not just in meetings
