Machine Learning Engineer


Are you passionate about the power of data? How about unlocking the potential of patient data with Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing? LynxCare, a Belgian scale-up, is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to help healthcare providers unlock previously unavailable clinical data for improved patient outcomes and research.

AI and NLP is at the very heart of what we do at LynxCare. As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will be instrumental in maintaining and improving LynxCare's clinical information extraction engine. The emphasis for this role is on managing the lifecycle of ML models, including deployment and monitoring. You will build tools to monitor data and model quality, and track performance metrics to guarantee the performance, scalability and reliability of the engine. Next to development and operations, you will assist research by bringing state-of-the-art models and LLMs to production, and optimizing them to process large volumes of real-world data.

You have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field but demonstrable equivalent experience is definitely considered as well.
  • Hands-on experience with Python, common machine learning libraries, and NLP- or LLM frameworks like Hugging Face Transformers, spaCy, vLLM, Ollama,
  • Proficiency in Git for version control, including branching, merging, and resolving conflicts
  • A strong sense of ownership
  • A desire to work with and learn from colleagues with diverse perspectives and experiences
  • A passion for quality, good design and clean code
  • You are fluent in English. Familiarity with Dutch or French are a definite plus


You have (nice to have):

  • Experience with multi-lingual NLP projects and productizing research
  • Experience with training and optimizing transformer models for information extraction
  • Hands-on experience with at least one Cloud Service (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Experience with CI/CD and task automation (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub, Bitbucket)
  • Knowledge of medical ontologies and coding systems
  • Fundamentals of data engineering (familiar with data ingestion, orchestration, transformation, storage, and governance)
  • Experience in Agile methodologies and collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with Kubernetes

Your journey at LynxCare:

  • Within your first month, you are familiar with LynxCare’s core NLP framework.
  • Within your third month, you can independently do maintenance tasks and add smaller features.
