We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist (Freelance) to help us unlock the full potential of our data. Based in Brussels, our technology company is scaling rapidly, and we need someone who can bridge advanced modelling with real-world impact. This is an opportunity to shape critical AI and ML initiatives in a fast-moving, product-driven environment. Hybrid work setup with the flexibility you expect as a senior freelancer.

You’ll lead the development of a predictive recommendation system aimed at increasing user engagement on a core digital platform. This project includes selecting relevant features from behavioural data, training and validating machine learning models, and working with product and engineering teams to bring the solution into production. The recommendations will support a more personalized user experience across web and mobile interfaces, and your input will shape both the algorithm and its user-facing applications.

Responsibilities

• Develop, deploy, and maintain machine learning models that drive product personalization, automation, or business forecasting
• Work closely with stakeholders to understand business problems and translate them into data science use cases
• Lead end-to-end data science projects: from problem framing, data wrangling, model development, evaluation, and implementation
• Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to ensure model integration into scalable data pipelines and products
• Communicate findings clearly and effectively to technical teams and business stakeholders
• Mentor and guide other team members where needed, helping level up the overall data maturity

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in data science or machine learning roles, ideally in a product or tech-led environment
• Strong skills in Python (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, etc.) and SQL; familiarity with PyTorch or TensorFlow is a plus
• Proven experience deploying ML models in production environments
• Comfortable working with cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure) and version control (e.g., Git)
• Experience with model monitoring, explainability, and performance tuning
• Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly and work cross-functionally
• Fluent in English; Dutch or French is a plus
