Role Overview
The Environmental Health & Safety Officer (EHSO) will be responsible for implementing and monitoring site-specific safety policies and procedures on a live Data Center construction/operations site in Charleroi. The role ensures compliance with local legislation, client standards, and company policies, while promoting a proactive safety culture among employees and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of company and client EHS policies and procedures on site.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to ensure safe working conditions.
- Monitor compliance with method statements, permits to work, and control of high-risk activities (hot works, electrical works, working at height, lifting operations, confined spaces, etc.).
- Assist in incident/accident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are carried out.
- Maintain accurate EHS records, reports, and documentation (toolbox talks, inductions, training logs, incident reports).
- Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness sessions to staff and subcontractors.
- Liaise with project management, client representatives, and subcontractors to promote safe practices.
- Support emergency preparedness, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.
- Promote environmental awareness, including waste management, spill prevention, and energy efficiency initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant Health & Safety qualification (NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent).
- Previous experience in a construction, engineering, or mission-critical environment (data centers, pharma, or industrial facilities desirable).
- Strong knowledge of Belgian health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Experience with high-risk activities (electrical safety, lifting, confined spaces, hot works).
- Ability to conduct audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage staff and subcontractors at all levels.
- Good IT and reporting skills (MS Office, EHS reporting systems).
