Role Overview

This is a senior-level DBA position focused on managing and optimizing PostgreSQL databases hosted on Microsoft Azure. The role is essential for ensuring the performance, security, availability, and scalability of cloud-native database systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Database Administration

• Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL on Azure (especially Azure Database for PostgreSQL – Flexible Server).
• Perform routine maintenance: backups, restores, patching, and upgrades.
• Optimize performance through query tuning, indexing, and configuration adjustments.
• Implement High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) using Azure-native tools and PostgreSQL replication.

2). Security & Compliance

• Enforce security policies: access control, encryption, and auditing.
• Ensure regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
• Manage RBAC and integrate with Azure Active Directory (AAD).
• 3. Automation & Infrastructure as Code
• Automate DBA tasks using PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
• Use Terraform or ARM templates for provisioning and managing infrastructure.

• Monitoring & Troubleshooting

• Monitor database health using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and third-party tools (e.g., pgAdmin, Datadog).
• Troubleshoot issues like deadlocks, slow queries, and connection problems.

5) Collaboration & Support

• Work with DevOps, development, and infrastructure teams.
• Provide guidance on database design and performance optimization.
• Participate in on-call rotations for 24/7 production support..

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years as a PostgreSQL DBA, with 2+ years on Azure.
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, performance tuning, and replication.
• Hands-on experience with Azure Database for PostgreSQL.
• Proficiency in SQL, PL/pgSQL, and scripting (Bash, Python).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate).
• Experience with containerized PostgreSQL (Kubernetes, Docker).
• Knowledge of other databases (Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server) is a plus.
