Assistant Director, Public Policy, Asia Pacific


Job Purpose
The Assistant Director, Public Policy, will be located in Hong Kong and will report to the Head of Asia Pacific Public Policy. ISDA's Public Policy function advances Asia Pacific and international public policy, market developments and advocacy efforts by representing the organization before policy makers and financial regulators. The Assistant Director will support ISDA and members in furtherance of ISDA's advocacy efforts. This support will include research and analysis as well as communication with public policy team members, ISDA member firms, and external policymakers on a variety of complex financial services issues.
Duties And Responsibilities
Advocacy
Contributing to the development of key projects under ISDA's Asia Pacific Public Policy strategy and contributing to the development of Global Public Policy strategies.
Support engagement strategies that help ISDA to engage effectively, setting up meetings for ISDA staff at key industry events.
Shaping public policy in areas of great importance to ISDA through education or representation, maintaining ISDA's reputation.
Research, advises and executes the development and execution of public policy strategies to support member priorities, in particular with regards to critical projects which could impact on ISDA's reputation if not managed in the correct manner.
Expanded role in developing and maintaining key relationships with regulators in an effort to improve ISDA's outreach
Support ISDA's advocacy efforts by attending and tracking regulatory agency meetings, and providing detailed updates to Senior Management and Association members
Create and update briefing materials for team and other external contacts.
Relationship Management
Establish and maintain strong relationships across ISDA.
Build strong relationships externally with regulators, members, committee members and others.
Supporting Legislative And Regulatory Initiatives
Ensuring that all legislative and regulatory advances or changes impacting Public Policy Asia Pacific are captured and easily available to the public policy team
Attend and lead key meetings and briefings related to ISDA's policy objectives, able to take concise notes and recordings of key outputs.
Attend other relevant committees, conferences and regulatory meetings ensuring on top of the latest insights.
Oversee and monitor legislative and regulatory initiative, keeping track of new legislation and up to date with all relevant regulations published
Staffing and/or supporting Public Policy's ongoing interaction with regulators and interface with industry groups and ISDA membership
Researching topics and news related to the members and issues you deal with
Being well-versed in issues of the day, and in those that affect ISDA members in particular
Having a strong information management so that information can easily be accessed by the team
Communication And Reporting
Research and prepare analyses on various related topics.
Ability to write compelling and persuasive briefing papers, synthesizing member input.
Ensure Asia Pacific Public Policy team is appropriately educated and informed of legislative and regulatory developments.
Provide legislative, regulatory and policy research, technical reports and data analysis for use by the wider team.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; post-graduate degree in political, history, law or economics desireable.
Further financial qualifications an advantage.
Relevant Skills/ Abilities
Proficiency in regional languages such as Mandarin and/ or Korean is desirable.
Strong knowledge of the derivatives market and regulation an advantage.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with good facilitation and presentation skills and proven track record of communicating successfully across jurisdictions.
Ability to influence without authority and interact credibly with all levels of the organization.
Excellent consultative ability and interpersonal skills.
Strong ability to promote change and manage resistance and have difficult conversations while maintaining working relationships.
Strong working knowledge of APAC derivatives regulations and Public Policy.
Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Experience
5 plus yrs professional experience in either legal/regulatory /legislative OR in financial institutions/ financial markets
Experience in a supervisor/ regulator is an advantage
