Mathematical Research Engineer for Computational Analysis and Optimization
Your role
As part of a team, you will develop prototype software tools to support product designers in evaluating and enhancing their designs. Your work, in collaboration with leading high-tech companies, will contribute to the creation of efficient and sustainable products in the factory of the future.
At Flanders Make we conduct research on Design for Excellence (DfX) methodologies and tools for cyber-physical product designs and production environments. Currently we are focussing on improving cost, manufacturability, assemblability and sustainability of the product. In our upcoming research projects we want to further develop prototype software tools that can automatically evaluate design rules on virtual product geometries.
Develop algorithms based on computational geometry
By working at Flanders Make you will work together in a small research team combining expertise in software, mechanical and mathematical engineering, machine learning, artificial intelligence and modelling of cyber-physical systems. You will get the opportunity to build up your expertise in the domain that you are most keen for. Through our projects you will work together with experts from both industry and academia, pushing the state-of-the-art of DfX to the next level.
In this position you will develop and implement algorithms that combine 3D feature recognition, spatial reasoning and production process information. Your algorithms related to 3D geometries (mesh, voxel, brep) will provide visual and actionable feedback to designers and/or process engineers in order to support and improve their decisions in the design workflow. Ultimately you will have contributed to improved design software for a variety of industrial use cases such as cooling systems, air compressors, automotive subassemblies and other cyber-physical systems.
