Cloud/Application Architect

We are hiring an Application/Cloud Architect for the EU Commission in Brussels, Belgium.

Location: Brussels, Belgium (two days per week onsite)

Employment Type: Contract OR Permanent

Rate: €410 p/day

Salary: €50 000 – €63 700 depending on experience + benefits

Eligibility: Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU with no sponsorship required

Main Responsibilities

Design high-level application architecture that is scalable, maintainable, and aligned with modern development practices.

Specific Expertise

• Architecture Design (10+ years)
• Extensive experience designing enterprise‑grade architectures, including the use of architecture design patterns, enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF), and multi‑tier application architectures.
• Microservices Architecture (10+ years)
• Strong background in microservices design, including event‑driven systems, eventual consistency models, and leading or supporting transitions from monolithic to microservices architectures.
• Cloud‑Native Application Development (10+ years)
• Proven track record designing and building cloud‑native solutions, leveraging containerization, orchestration platforms, and scalable cloud services.
• Java / Java EE (10+ years)
• Deep hands‑on experience with Java and JEE, including modern frameworks such as Spring Boot, and managing Java version migrations.
• Frontend Development – Angular (5+ years)
• Solid experience with Angular 2+ (ideally Angular 18), modern UI/UX paradigms, and advanced client‑side development.
• Cloud DevSecOps (5+ years)
• Practical expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), containerization (Docker), service discovery (Consul), secrets management (Vault), and modern security standards such as OAuth2 and OpenID Connect.
• Cloud & Container Platforms (5+ years)
• Strong experience with container orchestration, Container‑as‑a‑Service (CaaS) platforms, and cloud infrastructure operations.
• Architecture Governance & Review (5+ years)
• Experience enforcing architectural standards through pull request reviews, and applying architecture‑as‑code and governance practices.
• Observability & Monitoring (5+ years)
• Hands‑on experience implementing and operating observability solutions using tools such as Dynatrace, Elasticsearch, and Grafana for monitoring, logging, and performance analysis.

Certifications & Qualifications

Following certificates & standards are ideal for the performance of tasks:

• TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework)

• ITIL Foundation / ITIL 4 Certifications

• Oracle Certified Professional: Java SE Programmer

• Bachelor's Degree
