Group Controller / Finance Manager (Insurance Brokerage) Reports to: CFO System: Xero (multi-entity, multi-currency) Accounting standard: Primarily IFRS Team: 2 direct reports (Finance Manager; Commissions & Referral Partner Fees Specialist) Role Summary The Group Controller / Finance Manager is accountable for end-to-end finance operations across a multi-jurisdiction insurance brokerage group with entities/activities in Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai (UAE), BVI, Cayman and the US. This role leads group accounting and close, ensures high-quality IFRS-aligned reporting, and oversees corporate tax and indirect taxes (GST/VAT) while building scalable controls and processes. You will manage two direct reports, partnering closely with the CFO and business leaders to improve financial visibility, governance, and execution. Key Responsibilities 1) Group Accounting Ownership (IFRS) & Close Leadership Own the monthly/quarterly/year-end close for all entities; set timelines, deliverables, and review standards. Maintain a strong control environment over general ledger integrity, including accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, FX revaluation, and balance sheet substantiation. Drive consistent IFRS-aligned accounting policies across jurisdictions (including revenue recognition, commission income/expense presentation, and provisions). Oversee intercompany accounting (recharges, settlements, eliminations) and group consolidation logic, ensuring clean roll-ups and audit-ready support. 2) Xero System Ownership & Finance Operations Excellence Own Xero configuration and governance across entities (chart of accounts standardization, tracking categories, user controls, and workflow approvals). Ensure high-quality month-end outputs: reconciliations, supporting schedules, and documentation standards. Improve close speed and quality through automation and standard templates (bank recs, AR/AP aging, intercompany, deferred income, commission accruals). 3) Commissions & Referral Partner Fees Oversight Directly manage and develop the Commissions & Referral Partner Fees Specialist; set controls and review processes around calculations, accruals, invoicing, and payments. Establish reconciliations between operational systems/records and finance (sales pipeline, policy issuance, premium receipts, clawbacks, and partner agreements). Ensure accurate accounting for commission receivables, commission income, partner/referral payable, and any clawback provisions under IFRS. 4) Tax & Regulatory Compliance (Corporate, GST, VAT) Oversee corporate income tax compliance and provisioning across jurisdictions in coordination with external advisors. Ensure timely and accurate Singapore GST and UAE VAT registrations/filings, reconciliations, and audit-ready documentation. Maintain a group compliance calendar (statutory filings, audits, tax submissions) and manage tax authority queries. 5) Reporting: Management, Statutory, and CFO Support Produce and present monthly management reporting packs: P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, KPIs, and variance analysis with clear commentary for the CFO and leadership. Support budgeting and forecasting cycles, including headcount planning, commission economics, and cash flow projections. Provide ad-hoc analysis and decision support (profitability by channel/market, partner economics, cost base reviews). 6) Internal Controls, Audit, and Governance Design and maintain internal control frameworks suitable for a multi-entity group (approval matrix, segregation of duties, documentation). Lead coordination with external auditors for year-end audits and statutory financial statements; ensure clean, timely deliverables. Partner with company secretarial/legal providers to ensure entity compliance (where applicable) without letting governance become a finance bottleneck. 7) People Leadership Lead and coach two direct reports: Finance Manager (core accounting operations, AP/AR, entity closes, depending on structure) Commissions & Referral Partner Fees Specialist (commission/partner fee operations with strong controls) Establish clear objectives, review cadence, training plans, and performance standards. Key Interfaces Internal: CFO, operations/case management, distribution/sales leadership, compliance, and regional entity leads External: Auditors, tax advisors, banks, payment providers, and corporate service providers Required Qualifications & Experience Degree in Accounting/Finance (CPA/CA/ACCA or equivalent strongly preferred). 7–12+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including 2+ years of people management. Strong track record owning multi-entity close and financial reporting under IFRS. Hands-on experience running finance operations in Xero (multi-currency experience strongly preferred). Understanding of corporate tax principles and indirect tax compliance (GST/VAT); comfort coordinating multi-jurisdiction advisors. Strong Excel/Sheets skills; ability to translate messy operational inputs into clean financial outputs. Preferred Experience Insurance brokerage, wealth advisory, financial services, or other commission-based revenue models. Experience with commission/referral fee structures, clawbacks, and policy lifecycle-related accounting. Experience operating across APAC/MENA/offshore structures and intercompany arrangements.
