Senior Design Project Engineer
Location: Gent, Belgium
On-site Requirement: 3–4 days per week
Languages Required: Fluent in English and Flemish (Dutch)
🎯 Role Overview
This is a senior-level engineering position focused on leading and coordinating the design phase of a pharmaceutical facility project. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal stakeholders and external design partners to ensure the project is executed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design phase across disciplines including architecture, mechanical, electrical, automation, and more.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external design firms to ensure alignment and quality of deliverables.
- Ensure adherence to the standard project methodology (IDEA: Ideation, Definition, Execution, Assessment).
- Monitor and manage performance of design firms and contractors in terms of cost, schedule, and quality.
- Act as the engineering lead, ensuring technical integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate design and installation activities for cleanrooms, HVAC, automation systems, sprinklers, and other critical systems.
- Apply Value Engineering principles to optimize cost and quality.
- Ensure compliance with safety, sustainability, and regulatory standards.
- Support issue resolution during construction and commissioning phases.
- Participate in final project review and contribute to lessons learned documentation.
🎓 Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Building Services); Master’s degree is a plus.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering and design management.
- Proven experience in pharmaceutical facility projects, especially involving cleanrooms, process equipment, HVAC, and utilities.
- Experience managing or working closely with architectural engineering (AE) firms.
- Strong project management skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Experience working with international teams is advantageous.
- Fluent in both English and Flemish (Dutch).
