AI Engineer

About ADLC

ADLC is an Antwerp-based start-up revolutionizing drone logistics. Founded in 2021, we completed the world’s first dangerous-goods drone transport in a port environment in 2024. Today, our drones fly daily express missions across the Port of Antwerp, and we proudly hold the “2024 Supply Chain Start-Up of the Year” title. Central to scaling our service worldwide is a robust AI approach—optimizing every flight, schedule, and operational decision end-to-end.

The Role

As our first dedicated AI Engineer, you will:

  • Design, train, and validate algorithms for operations scheduling.
  • Build incident detection and early-warning models.
  • Deliver data science outputs—forecasts, simulations, and decision support—directly embedded in our live operations.
  • Lead applied AI research: frame the problem, explore data, build optimization/ML models, back-test on history, then assist in deployment and monitoring.
  • Work closely on-site with engineering, pilots, and ops to collect ground truth, validate models against reality, and iterate quickly.

Who You Are

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
  • Hands-on experience solving complex optimization and machine learning problems (e.g., MILP/CP-SAT/heuristics/metaheuristics; classical ML and/or deep learning as needed).
  • Strong Python skills, especially using data science and optimisation libraries. Other programming experience is a plus.
  • Track record of choosing and implementing the right algorithms, and assisting in their deployment with measurable operational impact.
  • Data-driven, independent, and decisive.
  • Curiosity for applying AI to improve real-world operations.
  • Fluent in English;
  • Enthusiasm for drones, autonomy, and modern logistics is a clear bonus.

What We Offer

  • A full-time employee contract with competitive compensation, modern tooling, and support for training relevant to the role.
  • Immediate impact: your models will run against live drone operations—measurably cutting delays, incidents, and costs.
  • A high-leverage environment: tight feedback loops with pilots and operations managers, direct access to decision-makers, and rapid deployment.
  • Growth: become the reference point for AI/Optimization as we scale across routes, hubs, and geographies.
  • Primarily on-site in Antwerp with a focused, collaborative team.
