As part of a consortium tender for a European organisation, we are searching for a freelance Solution Architect to be responsible for the design and governance of complex mission-critical IT systems in the defence sector. They align business and operational requirements with secure, scalable, and interoperable technical solutions that meet strict military/defence standards. Responsibilities Translate operational and capability requirements into secure and compliant IT solutions Design multi-domain architectures across classified and unclassified environments Align architecture with defense-specific frameworks (e.g. Federated Mission Networking (Fmn), Magerit, Naf) Lead architectural decisions for command-and-control, secure communications systems and accredited wide area networks Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including military and civil program leads. Ensure interoperability with legacy systems Collaborate closely with SOC and NOC and follow up procedures such as RFC Produce solution architectures from several viewpoints and aspects, technical roadmaps, and integration plans Support system accreditation, risk assessments, and security audits Profile 10+ years in enterprise or solution architecture, ideally within defense, aerospace Strong understanding of Togaf, ArchiMate and service-oriented architectures Ability to move between detailed infrastructure designs to capability and higher-level solution building blocks designs Familiarity in container-based and Virtualization architecture Able to collaborate between different projects and requirements in an agile way Have the mindset to pickup new requirements and learn new technologies for the purposes of providing the needed solution Togaf/ArchiMate/Federated Mission Networking (Fmn), Naf ITIL, Prince2 or PMI for project involvement Experience working in classified environments Additional details Seniority: Medior/Senior Start Date: Duration: 12 Months Extension: Yes Contract: Freelance Location: Brussels Onsite Policy: Flexible Hours Per Week: 40 Languages: Fluent English, French is a bonus Clearance: EU Secret Personnel Security Clearance Required (must be eligible if not already cleared) Interview Process: Onsite Interview
