Embedded Systems V&V engineer

Mantis Robotics BV (Leuven) is the Belgian R&D center of Silicon Valley based Mantis Robotics, one of the fastest growing robotics startups, backed by Amazon (lead investor).

We are seeking a motivated Embedded Systems V&V Engineer to join our team in Leuven, Belgium. In this role, you will work hands-on with robotic systems, validating embedded firmware and system behavior through integration and system-level testing. You will take the lead in defining and executing the validation strategy to ensure safe, robust, and performant robot operation.

Core Responsibilities:

• Perform hands-on verification and validation of embedded firmware on robotic platforms
• Execute integration testing involving sensors, embedded controllers, and safety mechanisms
• Define and maintain test strategies aligned with system requirements and safety objectives (Incl. Definition of acceptance criteria).
• Analyse validation coverage, identify gaps, and propose efficient improvements to the test approach
• Develop test procedures, test setups, and supporting tools (software and/or hardware)
• Collaborate closely with embedded firmware, hardware, and robotics engineers to improve requirements testability and system robustness
• Follow the V-model development process to ensure efficient testing execution:

-At the correct level: Unit / Module / Sub-system / System level

-In the right environment: Simulation / MIL / HIL / System

-With the correct, state-of-the-art tools

• Create test reports and communicate them towards the development teams, following up the reported bugs in a Jira database

Qualifications:

• Master degree in Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related field
• Strong interest in embedded systems, robotics, and hands-on testing on real hardware
• Experience with C/C++ or Python in an embedded or robotics context
• Basic understanding of embedded firmware, micro-controllers, sensors, and real-time systems
• Comfortable working in a lab environment and debugging hardware/software issues
• Structured mindset with attention to detail and system-level thinking
• Experience with verification & validation, integration testing, and system testing

Preferred:

• Familiarity with robotics systems, control loops, or safety-critical systems
• Experience with test automation, scripting, or hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) setups
• Knowledge of version control systems (e.g. GitHub)
• Interest in functional safety, Human–Robot Interaction, or industrial automation
