Role Overview
As Head of Public and Regulatory Affairs, you will lead ING Belgium's strategic engagement with external stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
You will be responsible for shaping and executing the bank's public affairs strategy, regulatory positioning & coordination of the agenda; ensuring alignment with ING Group and our purpose of empowering people to stay a step ahead in life and in business.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement ING Belgium's public affairs strategy towards key stakeholders to support the bank's business objectives and reputation and ensure alignment with ING Group.
- Monitor political developments and emerging public policy trends that may impact the banking sector and ING as such to create effective actions upfront.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with Belgian policymakers, government officials, and industry associations.
- Represent ING Belgium in external forums, roundtables, and advocacy platforms to promote the bank's interests and values.
- Advises ING staff, including senior management (staff and boards of ING entities) about ING's advocacy and engagement. Provides regular updates to & leads strategic dialogues with ING's Belgium Board (Exco)
- Responsible for ING Belgium's engagement with financial regulators, including the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) and FSMA and ING Group Supervisory department (e.g. coordination SREP). Responsible lead for the relationship with Febelfin
- Alignment with key functions being Legal, Compliance, Risk, Treasury/Finance teams to ensure regulatory expectations are met and integrated into business planning.
- The role has a small and dedicated team of experts according to the needs
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Law, Political Science, Economics, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in public affairs, regulatory strategy, acumen in economics & financial services.
- Proven track record of stakeholder engagement, policy influence, and regulatory navigation.
- Deep understanding of Belgian regulatory environments and frameworks
- Excellent communication skills in Dutch, French, and English.
