Data Engineer (MS Fabric)

For a customer in Hasselt, we are searching for a freelance Data Engineer to work in a central data team supporting internal customers of the group comprising over 700 employees.

Responsibilities

• You design and build data architectures and data pipelines that remain stable, scalable and maintainable.
• You integrate data from different source systems into one consistent data layer.
• You set up data models that are logical, performant and reusable.
• You monitor data quality, metadata, security and privacy. Structurally, not ad hoc.
• You make conscious choices in tools and architecture, together with the team.
• You document what you build. So that knowledge remains, even when people change.
• You will support self-service BI initiatives and contribute to training and coaching on data tools and processes.
• You participate in the implementation yourself. Builder's mentality. Not an ivory tower.
• Together with data analysts, data scientists and business stakeholders, you translate clear requirements into technical solutions.

Profile

• Hands-on experience with cloud environments and modern data technologies such as Fabric, Power Automate, dbt and Visual Studio.
• At least 3 years of experience as a data engineer or data architect.
• Strong knowledge of data architecture, data modeling, and ETL or ELT.
• Experience with the Microsoft data stack. Fabric is a definite plus.
• In-depth knowledge of SQL and modern data storage such as Delta Lake.
• You think in structures, not workarounds.
• You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
• You take ownership and act proactively. You don't wait.
