Freelance Accounting Manager


Freelance Accounting Manager Position.

This position sits within the central finance team and will involve hands-on accounting responsibilities combined with team oversight and coaching for a small group of junior accountants. The mission offers an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic, fast-evolving industry environment with a mix of operational, managerial, and analytical responsibilities.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Oversee general accounting operations including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end and year-end closings.

Ensure compliance with Belgian GAAP and group accounting policies, maintaining accurate financial records for local and consolidated reporting.

Supervise the preparation of VAT declarations, tax filings, and statutory documentation in collaboration with external auditors and advisors.

Lead the preparation of financial statements and management reports, providing analysis on variances and key performance indicators.

Coordinate with cross-functional teams (procurement, billing, and operations) to resolve accounting discrepancies and drive process efficiency improvements.

Manage, review, and validate postings prepared by junior accountants, providing structured guidance, feedback, and ongoing coaching to ensure quality and consistency.

Drive the implementation of system or process improvements related to automation, reporting tools, and internal controls.

Support ad-hoc financial projects and act as a key point of contact for the Finance Manager during peak closing periods.

Requirements for the Candidate

Experience: Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience, ideally within a corporate or industrial environment, with proven experience in a supervisory or managerial role. Prior exposure to the Telecoms, Technology, or Utilities sectors is a strong plus.

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Technical Skills:

Strong understanding of Belgian GAAP; knowledge of IFRS is an asset.

Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar).

Advanced knowledge of Excel and familiarity with financial reporting tools.

Soft Skills:

Strong attention to detail and a structured, analytical mindset.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead, support, and develop junior team members.

Proactive, organized, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, project-driven setting.
