This role is central to our transition toward a fully automated, data-driven trading floor, focusing on the optimization of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Renewable Energy Sources (RES) The successful candidate will own the journey from raw market signal to live algorithms, covering research and back-testing, framework development, deployment of production-grade code, and real-time performance tracking. Your Mission We are developing the framework and the trading strategies to optimize a large portfolio (several GWs) of Battery Storage Systems, Wind and Solar assets, proprietary trading strategies etc. across the Day-Ahead, Intraday, and Ancillary Services markets. You will manage the entire development pipeline of each trading strategy: you will be researching trading signals in collaboration with analysts and quants, code the business logic of each strategy, decide on the execution protocol, design the appropriate monitoring tools and prioritize future refinements. You will ensure that strategies are robust, scalable, and operate with minimal latency. You will enhance, extend, and maintain our large‑scale trading framework, ensuring it remains robust, scalable, and aligned with the evolving needs of our automated trading activities. You will think systemically about the architecture, contribute to key design decisions, and drive continuous improvements that support long‑term reliability and performance. Energy systems are big beasts - you will be collaborating with several other internal and external teams throughout: analysts, quants, several IT teams and many more . In addition, you will be partnering with the Short-Term manual trading desk to develop mixed algo-manual trading strategies and monitoring tools. Hard Skills What we are looking for 5+ years of working experience. We welcome candidates from technology companies, financial institutions, or any other sector where they have demonstrated success in building complex, data-driven systems. Exposure to commodity trading is a plus. A Master's/PhD in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, Electrical Engineering etc. Advanced knowledge of Python and software development practices, including version control (Git) and database architecture (SQL). We value robust, testable, and maintainable code and experience with designing and maintaining large codebases over time. Strong experience in data analytics and applied Machine Learning, including relevant Python libraries. While not strictly required, an understanding of European power markets is considered a significant advantage. Soft Skills In our team, we highly value the following professional attributes and place equal weight on soft and hard skills: Hunger: relentless desire to identify opportunities and inefficiencies, and convert them into systematic, automated trading value. You don't wait for opportunities — you hunt them. Intellectual Curiosity: power markets are very complex, unpredictable and subject to constant change. You are obsessed with understanding things you do not immediately grasp and distill the signal out of (a lot of) noise. Problem solving: you can break down complex problems, identify solutions and – above all – prioritize heavily between them. You do not get lost in details and understand that often simplicity is a craft and not a shortcut. Collaborative Mindset: You thrive in cross-functional teams, you can listen and establish durable work relations. Team culture We are a recently formed, highly motivated team with a strong sense of ownership and shared mission. We value independent thinking, intellectual honesty, and proactivity; we encourage people to challenge ideas, take responsibility, and act rather than wait. This is a demanding and rewarding journey, and you will have the opportunity to make it as intense and impactful as you want it to be. Why join us?
