The GCO Sr Director Business Operations is accountable for establishing and continuously optimizing business operations strategy, to enable high quality trial delivery (time, cost and quality). In addition, this individual will lead GCO's \"Portfolio Services\" team; responsible for providing centralized portfolio facing activities including Training, Non-Core Countries, Independent Drug Monitoring Management etc.  This is accomplished by utilizing a broad knowledge of Clinical Operations, developing highly effective cross functional regional and global relationships, and leveraging data/insights. 

The GCO Sr Director Business Operations reports to the Global Head of GCO, is a member of the Leadership Team and leads the GCO business operations and portfolio services organization, an organization of ~100 FTE, inclusive of Business Operations Leads (BOLs), Centralized Administration and leaders overseeing portfolio services.  In this role the Sr Director Business Operations will also partner closely with the different Global Development and other supporting functions from across the business.

The Sr Director Business Operations will collaborate with the GCO SLT and Regional / Functional BOLs, having a pivotal role to play in maintaining global oversight:

  • To drive the development and implementation of GCO global/regional strategic plans.

  • GCOs resource (~5000+ FTE) and Budget (~$650M); ensuring appropriate resourcing plans, mitigations etc.

  • Contributing, monitoring, and driving action associated with global/regional goals and objectives, metrics and other performance measures.

  • Maintaining oversight of the groups non-drug project initiatives including considerations to change management, resourcing, and efficiency planning.

  • Ensuring effective, timely and compliant delivery of portfolio service delivery. 

Principal Responsibilities including, but not limited to:
  • Setup and optimize the GCO Business Operations organization in the areas of general business delivery.

  • Manage and coordinate business operations activities and drive operational excellence across functional groups in the following areas: Operational and Strategic support, Portfolio management support, Business Intelligence, Resource and Vendor management support, Compliance management and Financial management (including efficiency tracking across GCO)

  • Create and lead a business operations organization to establish global strategy, rigor, drive alignment and information/best practice sharing.

  • Connection with the other Business Operations roles within Global Development to facilitate the driving of cross functional collaboration and communication.

  • Support / contribute to development of GCO Global Strategy Member of GCO LT supporting ongoing functional management / governance discussions Coordinate and consolidate information across GCO functions.

  • Provide leadership and oversight of assigned portfolio services capabilities including Training (Onboarding and Site Staff), Non-Core countries, Independent Drug Monitoring etc.

  • Develop and manage agendas for GCO SLT meetings to ensure appropriate information sharing is focused, the topics are appropriate to the goals of the department, and actions and follow up are defined and closed.

  • Drive development of GCO strategic pillars aligned with Global Development in support of aligned Functional strategies.

  • Define the framework for cross-functional end-to-end improvement initiatives.

  • Manage and lead allocated projects/initiatives on behalf of GCO Globally

  • Set the business performance definitions and metrics to measure operational excellence across GCO by partnering with the metrics group.

  • Intake point for Global Development level requests and/or projects.

  • GCO Primary point of contact (related to non-function specific requests) for partner functions such as Procurement, Finance, HR, Capacity Management, R&D Quality and Operational Planning & Strategy.

  • Other projects and activities that support progression of GCO Capabilities and performance as assigned.

Primary Reporting Structure: Reports to GCO Global Head.

Primary interfaces: Manages an organization of ~ 100 FTE of Business Operations Leads (BOLs), Centralized Administration and leaders overseeing portfolio services. Interfaces extensively with GCO SLT members e.g. Regional Heads, Head of CCS, Head of Compliance. As well as Cluster / Country Heads, Regional Compliance Leads, Appointed Finance / HR / Capacity Management Contacts, Functional Managers, Global Development, and other GD functions Business Operations Head.

Other Interfaces: Internal Global Development, Internal Delivery Unit Colleagues, Internal Initiative Leaders and interface externally as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree is required (scientific or business orientation) with a Master's degree preferred.

  • Strong knowledge in the areas of Finance, Data Science and Clinical Operations

  • Excellent communication, project management, problem solving,  and analytical skills required.

  • Ability to develop strong partnerships in a matrix environment, drive challenging conversations and influence without authority.

  • Demonstrated inspirational leadership and ability to set a vision for the future; a drive for delivering and exceeding business results.

  • Exhibit relatable experiences of excelling at the above listed responsibilities.

Other:

  • Up to 10% domestic and international travel is required.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs which are country specific. The compensation and benefits information set forth in this posting applies to candidates hired in the United States. Candidates hired outside the United States will be eligible for compensation and benefits in accordance with their local market.

In the United States
Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis. The anticipated base pay range for this position is $173,000 to $299,000.

Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year of Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

This position requires up to 30% travel (Domestic and International).
