Senior IT Officer

The Development of the Gifted and Talented (CDGT) is looking for an experienced individual to fill the position of Part-time Senior IT Officer. Reporting to the Center Manager, the appointee will ensure an efficient IT operation and is expected to work closely with the team to coordinate various program and workshop activities offered by the Center. Duties include, but are not limited to

  • Provide timely technical support to staff across various platforms and systems.
  • Perform Ubuntu Linux system administration, including updates, security patches, and troubleshooting.
  • Manage VMware / KVM virtual hosts, including provisioning, monitoring, and performance tuning.
  • Administer and optimize the Apache web server for internal and external services.
  • Develop and maintain PHP-based applications, particularly those involving online payment systems (e.g., credit card processing, FPS integration).
  • Oversee Microsoft Windows Server administration, including user account management, backups, and system maintenance.
  • Administer and maintain the MySQL database server for performance and reliability.
  • Create and optimize database tables and SQL views to support ad hoc web applications.
  • Manage integration with Microsoft Access via ODBC and support PHP-MySQL web development.
  • Maintain and administer the Moodle Learning Management System, ensuring stable operation and timely updates.

Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, with at least 10 years of relevant post-qualification work experience in IT support and system administration.

Proven expertise in IT infrastructure, networking, and security, including Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows servers environments, VMware/KVM.  Proficiency in PHP programming, especially in secure payment gateway integration, solid experience in SQL for web application development and administration,  including schema design and query optimization, as well as maintenance. Familiarity with ODBC configuration and integration between MySQL and Microsoft Access.  Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently. The appointee should have good communication skills and a service-oriented mindset. (Duration: 1 year)
