About the Role

We are seeking a freelance Power BI Consultant for a 14-month project in Antwerp with our client. You will play a pivotal role in migrating a large-scale Cognos environment to Power BI, shaping the data landscape for a major public sector transformation. What You'll Be Doing

• Lead the migration of BI solutions from Cognos to Power BI, ensuring seamless transition and optimal performance
• Design and implement BI models based on Ralph Kimball methodologies, including functional modeling of star schemas
• Translate functional models into technical ETL models using SSIS
• Develop, optimize, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports for diverse business stakeholders
• Build and manage data warehouse components: data integration (ETL), reporting & analysis (BI), databases, and metadata
• Utilize DAX for advanced data modeling and calculations within Power BI
• Work with SQL Server Management Studio, creating and optimizing views and stored procedures
• Collaborate in Agile project teams, taking a proactive and leading role in development cycles
• Engage in project-oriented work, ensuring deliverables align with business objectives and timelines
• Participate in knowledge transfer and documentation to ensure sustainability of solutions
• Utilize JIRA and SharePoint for project tracking and collaboration (training provided if needed)

Technical Skills

• Demonstrable experience with Power BI (minimum 4 years, intermediate level)
• Strong expertise in ETL design using SSIS (minimum 3 years, junior to intermediate level)
• Proven experience in data warehouse modeling and BI concepts (Kimball, star schema, etc.)
• Advanced SQL skills and experience with SQL Server Management Studio
• Experience with DAX for Power BI
• Hands-on experience with reporting and analysis (minimum 2 years, intermediate level)
• Experience with project-oriented work in data warehousing environments
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies, with the ability to take a leading role
• Experience working within government or public sector organizations is a plus
• Knowledge of JIRA and SharePoint is beneficial (can be acquired on the job)

Language Proficiency

• Fluency in Dutch at European CEFR level C2 is required
