Process Engineer (Radiotheranostics / Nuclear & Process Engineering)
Mol, Belgium – Permanent Position
Job Description
As a Process Engineer, you will join an innovative organization operating at the forefront of radiotheranostics, focused on enabling the large-scale production of Actinium-225—one of the rarest and most promising radioisotopes for targeted cancer therapies.
In this role, you will play a critical part in the development of key subsystems within the Actinium-225 production chain, with a strong focus on the Radon (Rn) abatement system. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams spanning engineering, radiation safety, quality, and facilities, ensuring that complex systems are designed, tested, and delivered in compliance with nuclear safety, radiation protection, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Become the in-house Radon expert, developing deep knowledge of the physical and chemical behavior of radon isotopes, their decay chains, and interactions with adsorbent materials under varying environmental conditions (humidity, temperature, pressure).
- Lead the design of the Radon abatement system, ensuring compliance with technical requirements, nuclear safety, radiation protection, and regulatory standards, and contributing to safety assessments and system de-risking activities.
- Define and execute system testing, including adsorption performance tests, leak testing, operational validation, and commissioning.
- Perform experimental work to validate and de-risk technologies supporting the Radon abatement system.
- Evaluate system performance under normal, off-normal, and failure scenarios to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Support and contribute to structured risk assessments such as FMEA and HAZOP, identifying risks and mitigation strategies.
- Review and approve supplier documentation, including equipment designs, FAT/SAT protocols, and test results.
- Ensure all design documentation, drawings, specifications, and test plans are accurately maintained and up to date.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of experience in a similar process or project engineering role.
- Hands-on experience with gas adsorption processes, gas purification, or ventilation systems
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and material interactions under varying pressure and temperature conditions.
- Solid technical capability to critically review equipment design, procurement, and system integration.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured, rigorous approach.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in the nuclear, radiopharmaceutical, or pharmaceutical industries.
- Familiarity with safety studies such as FMEA and HAZOP.
- Experience working in regulated, safety-critical environments.
