Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • You will be assigned as a Network Engineer within the Operations division of the DGJ IT line. Your main role will be to ensure the design, implementation, and maintenance of the security and high availability of the network infrastructures of our datacenters and decentralized units at the national level, which support the DGJ IT line infrastructure.

  • You will therefore be required to work primarily at the central level of the IT line, but will also be required to travel to sites depending on the projects.

  • The role encompasses both technical configuration and the physical installation of various equipment, such as server racks in data centers and cabling management both there and at decentralized sites. It is therefore a relatively diverse and enriching role, both technically and personally.

  • Your expertise will support critical projects such as server migration and network upgrades to ensure they are robust, secure and efficient.

Main missions

During the first phase of your mission, you will be required to ensure the gradual migration of physical servers (classic and AI) from the current datacenter to a new datacenter.

Your main responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Review the existing situation and propose a migration plan detailing the tasks, deadlines and identified risks.

  • Set up all network equipment and configurations necessary for the installation of servers in the new datacenter.

  • Participate in the transfer of servers, including their uninstallation, transport and reinstallation at the new site.

  • Subsequently, ensure the maintenance and updates related to the network aspects of this infrastructure.

In a second phase, you will also support the connection of various local networks to a national network. In this capacity, you will participate in:

  • The establishment of physical connections between sites,

  • Firewall configuration and installation.

• Maintenance and evolution of the solution.

Finally, more generally, you will provide technical support to the decentralized teams of the various judicial directorates, accompanying them, advising them and offering them basic training to enable them to maintain a high-performing and secure network within their site.

Desired Profile

  • You hold a bachelor's degree in computer science (at a minimum), ideally with a systems focus, and you have several years of experience in a similar role.

  • You have extensive experience in the following areas:

  • pfSense / OPNsense,

  • Cisco network equipment,

  • High-availability networks.

  • You have a good understanding of network security and VPN technologies.

  • You are capable of physically installing servers in racks and performing cabling operations within a datacenter.

  • You know how to diagnose network problems, identify their cause and provide clear and effective support to users.
  • Experience in Linux administration and virtualization (KVM, Proxmox) is an asset.

  • You demonstrate good teamwork and effective communication skills.

  • You are proficient in English as well as one of the two national languages. Active knowledge of one national language and passive knowledge (at least) of the other is a real asset.

  • Finally, knowledge of the police environment, and more specifically of the Federal Judicial Police, is also considered an asset.

Hard Skils

Firewall and Security:

• Deployment and management of pfSense and OPNsense firewalls in high availability environments.

• Design and implementation of secure network architectures that comply with best practices

Network Infrastructure:

• Configuration and maintenance of Layer-2 and Layer-3 (Cisco) switches for the deployment of on-premises servers in a high availability environment.

• Design and consulting services for physical (LAN) and virtual (VLAN) networks

Datacenter - Physical work:

• Installation (Rack and Stack) of physical servers and optimal setup of their cabling within datacenters.

Support and troubleshooting:

• Providing assistance to end users for setting up and troubleshooting their VPN connections (e.g., OpenVPN).

Collaboration and advice:

• Working in coordination with nationally distributed (decentralized) teams to ensure the design and optimization of network solutions, guaranteeing scalability and security.

Soft Skills

  • Adaptability: The ability to adapt to a change in technology or strategy

  • Perseverance: Don't give up at the first sign of difficulty

  • Team spirit: Integrating into the team's vision and thinking collectively

  • Autonomy: The ability to work independently once things are aligned with the team

  • Technical curiosity: Don't stay confined to things you already know.

  • Creativity: Thinking outside the box to offer original solutions

  • Solution-oriented: Identify problems, but more importantly, propose solutions.

  • Ease of integration: Easily integrate into a new environment

  • Communication: Knowing how to communicate easily and whenever necessary
