PURCHASING OFFICER - LEUVEN REGION (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
The Purchasing Officer plays a central role in ensuring that the organization has timely access to the materials, components, and services needed to support both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic initiatives.
This position serves as a key connector between suppliers, engineering teams, and internal stakeholders to translate technical and business needs into effective procurement actions.
The Purchasing Officer is responsible for negotiating contracts, establishing efficient ways of working, and improving supplier performance through strong communication, structured processes, and a continuous-improvement mindset.
By proactively managing supplier relationships, optimizing lead times, and maintaining robust procurement workflows, this role helps the company reduce risk, control cost, and maintain operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead discussions and negotiations with suppliers to secure competitive pricing, favorable terms, and long-term agreements.
- Review, analyze, and negotiate contract conditions to ensure alignment with company standards, legal requirements, and business objectives.
- Maintain strong supplier relationships while identifying, evaluating, and onboarding new suppliers as needed.
- Develop, implement, and enhance standardized procurement procedures and best practices.
- Establish clear ways of working that support transparency, consistency, and effective communication across the supply chain.
- Ensure purchasing activities comply with internal policies, quality standards, and operational requirements.
- Work closely with engineering teams to interpret technical specifications, understand material requirements, and support project timelines.
- Participate in project discussions and design reviews to anticipate future sourcing needs and mitigate potential risks.
- Translate engineering and operational needs into clear supplier requirements and manage the flow of information throughout the procurement process.
- Monitor supplier performance, focusing on lead time accuracy, delivery reliability, responsiveness, and quality.
- Identify and address bottlenecks in the supply chain, working with suppliers to implement corrective actions and long-term improvements.
- Analyze market trends, material availability, and supplier capabilities to proactively adjust sourcing strategies.
Qualifications
- Relevant qualifications in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain roles.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-management skills.
- Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications and collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
- Demonstrated experience improving supplier performance or reducing lead times is a plus.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and procurement tools; strong Excel or data-analysis skills preferred.
