About the role The HSE Coordinator plays a crucial role in developing, implementing, and maintaining a strong safety culture within the manufacturing facility in Halle. By promoting safety awareness, encouraging proactive behavior, and ensuring a safe work environment, the HSE Coordinator contributes to protecting employees, minimizing risks, and complying with regulations. The HSE Coordinator works closely with the Operations Manager of a specific department to improve safety performance and foster a culture of responsibility. Additionally, the HSE Coordinator maintains contacts with external partners such as IDEWE and the insurance partner to further support workplace safety and health. In this role we are looking for a safety champion with a can-do mentality. Who is able to work with a lot of different profiles and characters in all layers of the hierarchy to improve our safety culture and policy. Someone who can make sure safety remains a priority in the busy schedule of employees and has a good ethical compass. Key responsibilities include Daily follow-up / Coordination Monitor the daily safety activities within your operations department. Make sure they are compliant with our Life Saving Principles, safety rules and guidelines. Safety Culture and Behavioral Change: Actively contribute to building and strengthening a safety culture within the organization, in close collaboration with the Operations Manager of the relevant department. Organize regular safety meetings and training to engage employees in safety initiatives and raise awareness. Implement life-saving principles and promote behavioral change through a culture of continuous improvement and active involvement. Be a role model in the department. Incident and Accident Management: Support the Operations Manager in incident and accident management within the department, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA), reconstructions, action plans, and corrective measures. Report incidents in the AXA platform and the Safety Dashboard, focusing on the actions taken to prevent recurrence. Communicate the lessons learned Risk evaluation and prevention Coördinating and documenting risk assessments of the task or workplace environment. Working with different disciplined advisors to give a holistic safety advice (ergonomic consultant, environmental consultant) Be involved in and informed about new projects in the site. Participate in meetings about new projects within your area, ensuring the safe implementation of new machines and installations in collaboration with the Operations Manager. Evaluate the '3 green lights' procedure with all new machines and installations to ensure safety from the outset. Evaluate active work permits and address hazardous work situations, focusing on raising safety awareness among employees. Training and Coaching: Provide internal safety training and coach team leaders (TLs) and operators on safety awareness and responsibilities. Coach team leaders on applying ergonomic advice and safety measures on the shop floor. Guide operators in performing LMRA (Last Minute Risk Assessment) and ensure their active involvement in safety measures. Coordinate evacuation exercises, train and coach employees and volunteers First Aid, EIP and evacuation leaders. Safety Inspections and Actions: Perform PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) for safety actions and measures, and follow up on safety inspections (GEMBA walk). Report safety issues in the Daily Meeting File and proactively seek solutions. Conduct safety-focused rounds in the factory to identify safety risks early and encourage employees to demonstrate responsible behavior. Reporting and Documentation: Ensure accurate and timely reporting of safety incidents and actions in the Safety Dashboard and track safety complaints via POKA. Prepare presentation and reporting materials for the Committee for Prevention and Protection at Work (CPBW) to raise awareness about safety issues. HSE Policy and Strategy: Assist the HSE Manager in developing and executing the HSE policy, with specific focus on translating Barry Callebaut's safety standards into local procedures. Conduct risk analyses and ensure the implementation of safety measures in production processes. Initiate and lead working groups on safety topics and actively involve employees in improving the safety culture. Keep improving emergency procedures and policies. Psychosocial aspects Give support to the trust persons in aggression and others Behavioral reports. Act as point of contact for reports of aggressive behavior, bullying, and aggression, referring them to trusted individuals to maintain a safe work environment. Collaboration with Internal and External Partners: Work together with the committee members of the ‘CPBW' and will keep them informed on incidents and risk assessments. Work closely with the quality department for a holistic advice in food defense. Work closely with external partners such as IDEWE (external service for prevention and protection at work) to obtain expert advice and support in developing safety and health policies. Work closely with the doctor and nurses for the organization of our medical checks and the organization of the first aid room. Collaborate with the insurance partner to manage risks and support incident reporting and claims. Administration Perform necessary daily administration: invoice handling, insurance administration, government administration in case of accidents, reporting to the management. Perform incident and accident reports. Design and digitize work instructions and safety instructions. As a first point of contact for all HSE related questions and/or issues you will be an important advisor and support to an Operation Manager and his/her direct reports. About you Education: A bachelor's or master's degree in HSE, environmental science, safety, engineering, or a related discipline. Experience: At least 3 years of experience in an HSE coordinating role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of HSE legislation, ISO standards (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001), risk management, and best practices in safety and environmental management. Skills: Strong analytical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work under pressure and set priorities. Language Skills: Dutch and French Safety engineering or technical competencies are a plus Competencies in coaching and training Competencies in (informal) leadership, leading by example and influencing change Analytical skills and basic knowledge of risk assessment methods Basic IT competencies to work with our Management System, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP, and other platforms. Health- and Safety minded. Proactive and results-oriented with a strong focus on creating a safety culture. Strong problem-solving abilities and able to effectively mitigate safety risks. Excellent communication skills with the ability to motivate and encourage employees to engage in safe behavior. High degree of integrity and responsibility, with the capacity to address safety issues as a priority.
