R&D Technician


S-Biomedic is a biotech leader in the skin microbiome space located at the VIB Bioincubator in Ghent, Belgium and a company of Beiersdorf AG. The team of is comprised of R&D-oriented individuals bringing next generation microbiome-oriented solutions to skincare. S-Biomedic is currently looking for an R&D Technician dedicated to the research and development of novel biologic ingredients for tomorrow’s skincare industry.


R&D Technician


In this role, you will support discovery research and manufacturing-related activities, contributing broadly across microbiology, molecular biology, analytical methods, and cell culture. You will participate in establishing new methods and approaches, quality control testing, development and validation of analytical methods, process troubleshooting through bench-scale experiments, and general laboratory support.

You will report directly to the Head of R&D and collaborate closely with S-Biomedic’s scientists and technicians.


Key Responsibilities:


- Execute microbiology, molecular biology, and basic cell culture workflows (e.g., microbial culturing, viability assays, DNA extraction/PCR, sequencing prep, cell maintenance when required).

- Perform routine quality controls on microbial and cell-based samples; support troubleshooting of manufacturing processes by downscaling upstream and downstream processes at bench scale.

- Contribute to the development, optimization, and implementation of protocols, including SOPs, method validations, and laboratory reports.

- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with internal documentation and calibration/maintenance schedules.

- Train colleagues in technical procedures within your areas of expertise.

- Act as an ambassador for lab safety, organization, and good laboratory practices, helping foster an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative working environment.


We are searching for someone with:

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Bioprocess Technology, Bioscience Engineering, Biochemistry, or a closely related applied-life-science field

· Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in a similar role, with knowledge and laboratory experience with general microbiology techniques (eg. bacterial growth, application QC, standardized methods, cell counts analysis, viability assays, etc.), molecular biology (eg. DNA purification, amplification and sequencing) and analytical techniques.

· Exposure to cell culture (bacterial–mammalian interactions, aseptic technique, viability monitoring) is a plus

· Experience with one of the following is a plus:

o Bench-scale bioprocessing—fermentation and/or downstream steps such as filtration, centrifugation, or chromatography

o Drying technologies (freeze-drying, spray-drying) and powder handling

· A high willingness to learn and develop new approaches and techniques to address key scientific and laboratory operational topics

· An openness to actively collaborate and innovate while keeping a focus on R&D and manufacturing objectives

· A rigor for experimental quality from documentation habits to adherence to SOPs

· Fluency in English
