Context

EIM, the European Association of European Rail Infrastructure Managers, is the Representative Body of independent Rail Infrastructure Managers in Europe. EIM covers all relevant technical and policy issues related to railway systems of the EU, with a focus on the Infrastructure Manager´s perspective. This requires setting up Working Groups (WGs) that prepare input and position papers related to EU topics, that participate in EU meetings, share best practices from rail stakeholders across member states and actively contribute to the Single European Railway Area.

Role

Within the scope of its technical activities, EIM is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated graduate engineer to fulfil the role of Technical Coordinator and to join its Technical Team.

You will be part of a team overseeing and analysing technical initiatives related to rail infrastructure management in the EU. The team follows numerous rail technical activities legislated at the EU level, such as the Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSIs), the Safety legislation (CSMs) and the initiatives that drive the digitalisation of railways (e.g. RINF and telematics applications). The team coordinates 14 different WGs composed of experts from across Europe (EIM members) and various railway domains.

As Technical Coordinator, you will support and coordinate assigned EIM's technical WGs, ideally focused on the Signalling (CCS) domain and/or on Safety aspects. You will be working in close collaboration with the experts of our members in those domains. You will monitor and analyse ongoing activities of the European Commission (EC) and the EU Agency for Railways (ERA), as well as proactively prepare proposals and position papers that express the interest of EIM members.

✓ Coordinate with and report to the rest of the Technical Team and the Political Team, when necessary.

✓ Be actively involved in the preparation of the Technical Steering Group meetings and report on the ongoing activities.

✓ Be actively involved in the preparation of external meetings, with other sector stakeholders and EU institutions, when necessary.

✓ Contribute to dossiers, groups and processes related to the ERA (but also EC).

✓ Contribute to daily, ad-hoc tasks, coordination, administration, follow-ups, etc.

Desired profile

✓ Finalised studies at university level in Engineering or technical disciplines. Prior knowledge of railway systems (e.g., infrastructure, vehicle, traffic) is an advantage.

✓ Proficiency in the English language (compulsory) and a good knowledge of at least one other European language (preferably).

✓ Proficiency in all basic Microsoft program suites (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required; knowledge of Office 365 (SharePoint, Planner) is an advantage.

✓ Understanding of the European legislative framework (4th Railway Package and TSIs) is an advantage.

✓ Personal skills: Collaborative, structured and precise working attitude, quick learner. Experience in multicultural environments is an advantage.

The placement shall provide the opportunity to:

✓ Understand the role of the European Railway Sector, the ERA and EC in the development of railway policy and legislation.

What EIM offers

✓ Permanent and full-time job contract (conditions negotiable depending on candidate profile).
