The Operation Manager (Training & Simulation) leads the design, coordination and delivery of training content and simulation scenarios. This role acts as the main liaison with training authorities and ensures the effective management of the scenario portfolio and After-Action Review (AAR) process to continuously improve training outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Design, plan and coordinate simulation-based training content and scenarios aligned with operational requirements.
- Liaise with training authorities, instructors and end users to capture needs and validate training objectives.
- Manage the portfolio of training scenarios and ensure version control and documentation consistency.
- Lead and facilitate After-Action Reviews (AAR) to collect lessons learned and feedback from exercises.
- Coordinate with simulation engineers and operators to ensure scenario functionality and data accuracy.
- Support the definition of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reporting through AAR data analytics.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of training methods, materials and simulation usage.
Qualifications
Education:
- Royal Military Academy graduate or equivalent (former officer or instructor background preferred).
Languages:
- Dutch, French and English – minimum B2 level in each
Technical Skills:
- Recent land forces or defense operational experience.
- Knowledge of training pedagogy and instructional design.
- Proficiency with After-Action Review (AAR) methods and debrief techniques.
- Stakeholder engagement and coordination with military training authorities.
- Understanding of simulation systems and tactical Command & Control (C2) environments.
Tools & Technologies:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Power BI for reporting and analytics.
- Simulation platforms: Sword, VBS, DuelSim or similar C2/Simulation tools.
- AAR software and data capture tools.
Soft Skills:
- Leadership and coordination skills with multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and adaptability in dynamic environments.
- Analytical mindset and problem-solving orientation.
- Ability to integrate into and respect military organizational culture.
Security Requirements:
- National SECRET security clearance required or eligibility to obtain it.
Additional information
- Full-time position with rotating or extended shifts (06:00–22:00).
- Occasional 24-hour coverage and participation in national or international exercises.
- Flexibility to travel and adapt to operational training schedules.
