Who you are

We are offering you a 6-month internship within the People & Culture (HR) department of the world leader in home furnishing We give you the opportunity to learn and develop in the field of Human Resources by taking part in the daily life of one of our units. You can count on strong support and will be involved in projects that truly matter to us.

The internship can start as begin December or January.

You are enrolled at a Belgian university in the Faculty of Human Resources Management or Psychology.

You are bilingual: Dutch (good working knowledge) and French.

As a person, you are passionate about people and share a strong belief in individual potential. You act as an ambassador of the IKEA culture and values and enjoy working on both tactical and operational tasks in a dynamic, ever-changing, multidimensional environment.

You are confident and skilled in engaging co-workers throughout the cyclical People & Culture processes and in their development journey — always with a strong customer and business orientation, as well as an awareness of the continuous transformation of our retail environment.

You know how to implement long-term plans in line with budgets and set objectives, and you co-create strong working relationships with your colleagues to ensure a healthy, safe, and compliant workplace. You have experience in areas such as evaluating, encouraging, and ensuring the performance of co-workers in relation to organizational and individual goals. You know how to develop skills and leadership capabilities to help deliver on our customer promise.

You achieve goals, complete tasks, and deliver results. You are able to work independently, take initiative, and assume responsibility. You express your ideas and opinions effectively in both verbal and written communication, and you naturally interact and engage with managers and colleagues. You demonstrate a deep understanding of IKEA's corporate identity, core values, and vision of creating a better everyday life for the many people.

In this role, you will work across several business units, dividing your time and presence among them. Language skills and flexibility during local opening hours are required.

Your responsibilities

In the role of People & Culture Generalist, you will support the managers and co-workers of your unit to deliver results and create an excellent customer experience. You will bring expertise in people and culture matters and ensure that related strategies are effectively implemented.

You will be expected to:

  • Carry out local tasks according to common People & Culture processes and annual cycles, ensuring an excellent work experience.
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of the right talents with the right contracts, in close collaboration with the Market Area team and People & Culture Delivery.
  • Support the development of business competencies, leadership capabilities, and performance by setting relevant goals and ensuring learning and training together with the Market Area team.
  • Secure engagement and retention by understanding working conditions across all functions and collaborating with the co-worker experience team.
  • Contribute to administrative processes and ensure coordination between multiple national and regional support teams, acting as a contact point for external partners and authorities.
  • Act as the local People & Culture contact by assisting co-workers and managers with daily people-related questions and challenges.
  • Ensure that communication with local employers is consistent, well-received, and aligned with the IKEA brand.
  • Implement a labour relations plan that effectively manages all local interactions with co-workers and ensures that all areas of the unit comply with labour relations principles, as well as local policies, procedures, and laws.

In this role, you will report to a People & Culture Manager in your unit.
