Renewable Energy Programme Manager (m/f/x)

(Full-time or 4/5, Permanent, Based in Belgium)

Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe is Europe's largest coalition working on climate

and energy issues. With over 200 member organisations in more than 40 countries -

representing over 1700 NGO's and more than 40 million citizens - CAN Europe works to

prevent dangerous climate change and promote sustainable climate and energy policy in

Europe.

We're currently seeking a committed and motivated individual with demonstrated experience

in renewable energy to drive CAN Europe's efforts for a fast and fair renewable energy

transition, leading our renewable energy team to deliver a 100% renewable energy system

for a climate neutral Europe.

What impact you'll have

As a leader, you will directly manage CAN Europe's renewable energy sub-team as part of

the Energy team and lead on designing and delivering high impact advocacy and

campaigns. Your leadership will influence EU renewable energy policy, coordinate our

network's advocacy across 40+ countries, and shape high‑level political strategies to

advance a fast and fair renewable energy transition.

Required skills and experiences:

● At least 5 years of relevant professional experience including 3+ years in senior

policy, advocacy, or programme leadership roles in the renewable energy field.

● Proven experience in designing and delivering successful advocacy

strategies and campaigns in the renewable energy or broader energy field.

● Strong track record in strategic planning, representation, and coordination

● In-depth knowledge of EU institutions and energy policy processes, including

practical experience of policy processes relating to renewable energy or energy policy

● Experience in stakeholder engagement including funders, and decision makers

● Excellent level of written and spoken English

● Outstanding communication, networking, and public speaking skills

● High level of motivation and ability to coordinate the achievement of complex

objectives within deadlines

● Exceptional people management skills with experience in performance

management, team development, and conflict resolution

Other desirable qualities:

● Demonstrated alignment with the mission, the modes of action, and the values

of CAN Europe

● Experience in managing/working with teams in multicultural, multilingual environments

● Experience of working with networks of NGOs, philanthropy, EU

institutions, or industry/business associations across Europe in the climate and

energy fields

● Deep understanding of just energy transition and social fairness

considerations in renewable energy transition

● Experience or knowledge on EU electricity market design, large-scale

renewables permitting, electrification, and offshore wind

Job contents

This position will focus on leading the renewable energy sub-team in designing and

delivering high impact advocacy and campaigns, building strong alliances, spearheading

fundraising efforts, and advising the Head of Energy on strategic priorities to drive a fast and

fair transition to a 100% renewable energy system for a climate neutral Europe.

Tasks will include:

Strategic Leadership & Coordination (40%)

● Lead political advocacy and campaign coordination to achieve a 100%

renewable energy system in Europe.

● Identify and develop work in emerging renewable energy priority areas to

strengthen CAN Europe's impact.

● Provide strategic direction and input for briefings, position papers,

and communication tools under the 100% Renewable Europe

campaign.

● Coordinate renewable energy initiatives across the renewable energy team,

broader energy team, and wider CAN Europe network.

● Engage and mobilise CAN Europe members and partners, ensuring their voices

and inputs are integrated into broader strategies and initiatives.

Team Management & Planning (20%)

● Line manages members of the Renewable Energy subteam, providing

guidance, setting objectives, and supporting professional and personal growth.

● Foster a collaborative, trusted, and supportive work environment

● Participate in regular meetings with other line managers to address

cross-cutting organisational issues.

Fundraising & Reporting (20%)

● Lead fundraising efforts for renewable energy and contribute to

organisational fundraising initiatives.

● Ensure resources are used effectively in line with strategic objectives and

funder requirements.

● Lead on renewable energy-related reporting for internal systems, projects,

and grants.

Representation & Stakeholder Engagement (10%)

● Represent CAN Europe in high-level meetings, panels, and strategic forums.

● Build, foster, and maintain relationships with funders, policy makers, industry

experts, partner organisations, and allies.

Internal Collaboration & Support (10%)

● Participate in organisational processes and team-wide initiatives, including

General Assemblies.

● Support joint events and network-wide efforts.

● Serve as back-up for colleagues as agreed with the Head of Energy and policy

team members.

What CAN Europe offers

● A permanent contract with flexible working hours and the possibility of teleworking.

● Remuneration based on CAN Europe's salary grid, adapted to the cost of living in

the location. We offer a Belgian open-ended contract with an expected salary of

between 3.862,10 EUR ,86 EUR gross/month for a full time position

depending on the relevant years of experience (minimum 5-7 years) and subject to

Belgian tax; Meal vouchers (7,00 €/day); transport costs; eco-vouchers (250,00

€/year); sport and culture vouchers (100,00 €/year), phone allowance (39,00

€/month); work computer.
