The European Public Affairs (EPA) Team monitors EU policy & law and carries out a variety of strategic advocacy activities towards the EU institutions.

The role of "EU ESG Policy Manager" sits within the EU ESG Trade and industrial Policy Group (Group 1) and will be responsible for EU Corporate Environmental, Energy and Chemical policy developments..

The EU ESG Policy Manager with the support of the Head of Group will be monitoring and shaping various related policy initiatives such as the EU Climate Law, the Environment Omnibus, PFAS, Green claims, Power purchase agreements and relevant horizontal environmental and energy legislations related to the developing EU strategies such as the Clean Industrial Deal, the Action Plan on Affordable Energy and the Industrial Decarbonization Accelerator Act and the EU Chemical Industry Action Plan.

The EU ESG Policy Manager will also be in charge of updating and liaising with the Corporate Sustainability Center and the Global Public Affairs Office located in Suwon and coordinating with our European subsidiaries on the related EU policy developments implementation.

While your role will be initially focused on Horizontal Environment, Energy and Chemical policies, this scope may evolve according to your preference and the evolution of the EU and company's priorities.

Beyond the ESG Trade and industrial Part, EPA's also monitors and shapes various ongoing EU initiatives related to digital and product safety and sustainability. You will be expected to cooperate with this additional part as necessary in relation to your Trade and Industry expertise.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor & sense future EU policies & laws that impact SE's activity in the EU related to your scope of work
  • Deliver clear information on such EU developments to appropriate HQ teams including Samsung's Global Public Affairs (GPA) Office on a regular basis;
  • Aid the development of Samsung's positions on EU policy;
  • Advocate Samsung's positions towards key EU policy makers and trade associations;
  • Explain finalized laws to HQ, GPA, legal & compliance teams to ensure effective handover for company compliance preparation.

  • Clear understanding of the EU legislative process;
  • Ability to understand EU law and make an assessment of its impact on businesses;
  • Ability to find clarity in the EU legislative process and focus on priorities for the business;
  • Fully comprehensive written English that efficiently explains complex EU law in layman's terms to aid business understanding;
  • Ability to build and shape campaigns in reaction to EU legislative developments;
  • Ability to manage various tasks/projects at once with other team members and ensure efficient delivery of goals;
  • Quick thinker;
  • High level of integrity;
  • Open to different ideas;
  • Persuasive;
  • Proactive and enterprising;
  • Ability to asses business goals and set: short; medium and long term priorities;
  • Have an approachable and open mindset to solve problems of the business;
  • Be adaptable to sudden change;
  • Be transparent to all team members in relation to daily activities;
  • University degree (essential);
  • Have at least 2 years' experience in EU public affairs (public or private sector) (essential);
  • Have experience of working in 1 of the EU institutions (desirable);
  • Have advanced knowledge of English (essential);
  • Have knowledge of 1 other European language (desirable).
