EU Public Affairs Traineeship: Telecommunications, Tech, and AI


To start
: Between December and January 2025

Salary
: €1300 gross per month, plus 12 days annual leave, and travel and lunch benefits

What is on offer

  • A 6-month long paid traineeship with our EU Public Affairs team.
  • This is a unique opportunity to work directly with a client, embedded in their team, working on projects, and learning from some of the most senior and experienced people in the business.

The role

  • You will have the opportunity to support the work of a high-value Hanbury client, working directly with the client contact on day-to-day tasks.
  • You will research and monitor policy and political developments across Europe, dealing with what happens in the EU institutions and the impact of legislation and regulation on an innovative technology company.
  • You will analyse legal texts, reports, and other documents, and assess and inform on their relevance.
  • You will assist with the research for, and drafting and/or review of position papers and other policy-related documents.
  • You will attend virtual and/or physical-presence events in Brussels as appropriate, and report internally on the content.
  • You may be invited to participate in advocacy engagements with a variety of stakeholders as appropriate.
  • The elected candidate will work across several policy areas including technology regulation supporting the client in specific areas such as AI, data, connectivity and fraud prevention.

You will

  • Have a passion for European affairs and politics. Tech and telecom policy background/ experience a plus.
  • Have a desire to learn new things and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have the ability to work well within teams.
  • Speak and write in fluent English (as our main language for doing business).
  • Other European languages are an advantage (particularly French, German, Spanish or Portuguese).
  • Be excited by the opportunity to work on new projects.
  • Have a strong work ethic.

Who is eligible?

  • Candidates with a demonstrable interest in European regulation and policy.
  • You will have the relevant permissions to live and work in Belgium.
  • Policy or law degree with a demonstrated interest in policymaking and understanding of the EU and national decision-making processes. Previous experience within an EU institution, telecommunication, or technology sectors is a plus.
