About the Role

Our client is seeking a Senior Application Architect to lead the evolution of a cutting-edge Health Message Exchange Platform. This is a freelance opportunity (4 months) based in Brussels, with a hybrid work model. You'll join a high-caliber, growth-driven team, shaping the technical vision and empowering developers to deliver robust, scalable, and high-quality solutions. Your expertise will directly impact the reliability and future-readiness of a platform with real-world health impact.

What You'll Be Doing

• Designing and evolving the software architecture for a next-generation health message exchange platform
• Driving technical leadership and coaching developers, elevating the team's technical capabilities
• Balancing robustness, simplicity, and maintainability to deliver pragmatic, high-quality solutions
• Collaborating closely with stakeholders to ensure technical decisions align with real-world needs
• Modeling and documenting architecture using recognized frameworks (e.g., Archimate)
• Championing best practices in Hexagonal Architecture and Domain Driven Design (DDD)

Technical Skills

• Backend: Java 17+ (ideally Java 21+), SpringBoot 3+
• Frontend: Angular v18+ (ideally Angular 19)
• Database: PostgreSQL
• Architecture: Hexagonal (Ports & Adapters), Domain Driven Design (DDD)
• Architecture Modeling: Archimate or equivalent (junior to advanced proficiency)
• WebComponents: Theoretical knowledge or hands-on experience is a plus

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience architecting complex Java/SpringBoot systems
• Mastery of Hexagonal Architecture and Domain Driven Design principles
• Strong technical leadership and coaching skills; ability to elevate team performance
• Ability to model and communicate software architecture clearly (Archimate or similar)
• Pragmatic mindset: balancing quality, simplicity, and maintainability
• Collaborative spirit: comfortable engaging with stakeholders and cross-functional teams
• Interest or experience with WebComponents is a bonus

Language Proficiency

• Dutch: Active knowledge required
• English: Active knowledge required
• French: Active knowledge required

Other Requirements

• Hybrid work model (Brussels-based, with remote flexibility)
• Immediate availability preferred
• Freelance contract for 4 months
