Position Summary

The Exhibition Production Designer is responsible for creating detailed layouts, floor plans, elevations, and graphic elevations that guide the installation of exhibition environments. This role adapts existing intellectual property (IP) into venue-specific designs, ensuring each layout maintains the integrity of the experience while meeting safety, code, and operational standards. The designer provides production-ready documentation to support the installation team and coordinates closely with the graphics team on exterior branding and signage applications.


Roles and responsibilities also include:

  • Produce detailed floor plans, elevations, and layouts that serve as working documents for the production and installation teams.
  • Develop graphic elevations and coordinate with internal graphics teams to integrate exterior branding, signage, and wayfinding into venue layouts.
  • Adapt existing IPs to new venues while preserving creative integrity, visitor flow, and experiential intent.
  • Conduct test fits and feasibility studies to assess spatial requirements and venue suitability.
  • Apply safety standards, ADA requirements, and life-safety codes to all design layouts.
  • Integrate operational needs such as circulation, queueing, emergency egress, and staff workflows.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, Technical Designers, Design Managers, and Production teams to align layouts with site conditions.
  • Provide venue-specific documentation for internal coordination, client presentations, and approvals.
  • Maintain accurate version control and revision tracking of all drawings and documents.
  • Participate in venue surveys and provide support during installation phases.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exhibition Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in spatial or exhibition design.
  • Proficiency in SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Strong understanding of spatial planning, visitor flow, and code compliance.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Familiarity with standard theatrical elements such as temporary partitions, truss systems, rigging, lighting, projection, audio, and network infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of additional drafting programs such as AutoCAD, Revit, or Vectorworks.
  • Experience with touring exhibitions, museums, themed entertainment, or live events is an asset.
  • Knowledge of fabrication methods, construction techniques, and installation practices is an asset.
