Our client’s company is a reliable provider of colocation and connectivity services, offering the best and most sustainable digital solutions. The initial location is in Germany, with 10 distributed edge data centers, followed by other data centers in the Netherlands, UK, Belgium, Spain, France, Portugal, Ireland and Switzerland. Currently they have 30+ edge locations.

The data centers are integrated into a future-oriented energy infrastructure, contributing to a reduction in CO2 emissions in the generation, heating, and gas sectors through sector coupling. The role of data centers in Europe as innovative levers for reducing coal and stabilizing green energy infrastructure is being redefined from the ground up.

Role Description

We are seeking a hands-on, adaptable Facility Engineer to assist with the daily functioning of the infrastructure hub in Ghent. This hybrid position blends elements of facilities oversight and IT connectivity support, helping to ensure operational continuity, technical responsiveness, and a reliable client experience.

You will report directly to the site operations manager and be a key contributor to the upkeep of infrastructure, the coordination of installations, issue resolution and physical and digital systems support.

Responsibilities:

• Carry out regular site walk-throughs and preventative system checks (power, climate control, building management).
• Oversee BMS alerts and resolve operational irregularities.
• Assist with client setup requests, cabling, basic troubleshooting, and hands-on support tasks.
• Maintain organized cabling and ensure accurate record-keeping of client setups.
• Coordinate with external contractors for scheduled and emergency work, reviewing reports and validating completion.
• Prepare and manage quotations and cost approvals for maintenance or improvement work.
• Log site activities, interventions, and technical issues clearly and promptly.
• Respond to time-sensitive technical alerts both on-site and remotely (on-call rotation applies).
• Follow and enforce safety, security, and operational protocols at all times.
• Work in close coordination with the operations team and site lead to ensure a seamless service delivery.

Qualifications:

• Experience in technical environments like data centers, marine operations, offshore sites, or similar critical infrastructure.
• Practical understanding of both electrical/mechanical systems and IT infrastructure support.
• Strong troubleshooting capabilities and independence under pressure.
• Familiarity with structured cabling, basic networking, and IT support workflows.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and reporting skills.
• English fluency required; Dutch is a plus.
• Willing to participate in periodic on-call rotations.
