FEMYSO stands for the Forum of European Muslim Youth and Student Organisations and is a pan-European youth-led umbrella organisation. Our office is in Brussels, at the heart of the European institutions. With a network of 32 Member Organisations (MOs) across 21 countries, FEMYSO is the leading voice of European Muslim youth, empowering and developing them. We are the only Muslim organisation which represents the interests of Muslim youth and Muslims at large with EU, Council of Europe and UN institutions. We are often consulted by intergovernmental organisations, international NGOs and governmental bodies on the issues pertaining to Muslim youth in Europe. FEMYSO’s network provides a platform for like-minded young people to come together, share their experiences, ideas, and best practice. Through FEMYSO trainings and support, many projects and campaigns were launched locally, nationally, and continentally, on issues such as mental health, sustainability, active citizenship, and tackling Islamophobia.
Role Purpose:
As part of the final stage of the [A.i]slamophobia campaign, the researcher will analyse and synthesise data collected from the [A.i]slamophobia database, a residential training in Brussels, and a Red Teaming event at the European Parliament in collaboration with Humane Intelligence. The researcher will be responsible for producing a comprehensive report and other materials that identifies patterns of AI-driven Islamophobia, highlights key findings, and provides recommendations based on the data collected. There will also be the option to conduct interviews to expand the material available to use.
Key responsibilities:
• Conduct rigorous analysis of data from the [A.i]slamophobia campaign, identifying trends and systemic biases in AI systems.
• Synthesise qualitative findings to develop a structured and evidence-based research report.
• Investigate AI models’ biases related to Islamophobia, assessing algorithmic behaviour and potential harms.
• Draft a well-researched and accessible final report detailing key insights, implications, and recommendations.
• Stay informed on AI bias, ethics, and regulatory developments to contextualize research findings.
Required experience and qualifications:
• Degree in a relevant field such as Political Science, Sociology, Data Science, AI Ethics, Science and Technology Studies, or a related discipline.
• Proven research experience, particularly in AI bias, Islamophobia, or broader digital discrimination issues.
• Strong proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including data analysis.
• Experience in writing analytical reports, academic research, or investigative studies.
Required skills and attributes:
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets.
• Excellent research and writing skills to produce clear, structured, and well-substantiated reports.
• Ability to work independently with a focus on accuracy and depth of analysis.
• Familiarity with AI systems, bias detection methods, and ethical considerations.
• Proficiency in data visualization tools and research software is an advantage.
