Data Engineer (Expert)
Location: Brussels, Belgium
Freelance Contract Duration: June 2026 – December 2026
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (50% onsite / 50% remote)
We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join a leading financial institution and contribute to the design, development, and optimization of enterprise-scale data solutions. The successful candidate will play a key role in transforming complex business requirements into robust data architectures that support reporting, analytics, regulatory requirements, and data-driven decision-making.
This position offers the opportunity to work within a large-scale data environment, collaborating with business and technical stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality data products.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather and analyse business requirements using appropriate elicitation techniques.
- Translate business needs into efficient and scalable data solutions.
- Design data flows, data models, datasets, data stores, mapping rules, and access mechanisms.
- Identify and evaluate the most suitable source systems and define integration strategies.
- Define business and technical rules for data transformation and integration.
- Develop prototypes and proof-of-concepts to support solution validation.
- Design and implement logical and physical data models.
- Develop and industrialize data pipelines feeding data warehouses, data marts, and analytical datasets.
- Optimize and streamline data processes to maximize data availability, reusability, and performance.
- Ensure compliance with data quality, governance, security, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality data solutions.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 6 years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or a related field.
- Strong experience in designing and implementing enterprise data solutions.
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and data integration practices.
- Experience working within regulated environments, preferably in the financial services sector.
- Master’s degree in engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or another quantitative discipline.
- Strong team player with excellent collaboration skills.
- Proactive and self-motivated professional.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
