Hirundo Biosciences is the global women’s health R&D and BD hub of Gedeon Richter. Integrating both discovery and development capabilities, its mission is to improve women’s lives by discovering, developing, and delivering innovative therapies designed to best address their most pressing unmet medical needs, including endometriosis, PCOS, menopause, fertility, female cancers, and ovarian ageing.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Patent Attorney to join our Intellectual Property team in Liège, Belgium.

This position requires a strong scientific background, preferably in chemistry, pharmaceutical or life sciences, combined with solid intellectual property expertise and the ability to work closely with research teams in a dynamic biotech environment.

The successful candidate will act as a trusted partner to R&D and business teams, ensuring that innovation is effectively protected and leveraged to create strategic and competitive advantage.

About the Role

Reporting to the Senior IP Director, you will play a key role in supporting innovation by assessing patentability, shaping IP strategies, and managing patent-related activities in close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external counsels.

This role offers a unique opportunity to operate at the intersection of science, law, and business within a dynamic, transversal and innovation-driven environment.

You will contribute directly to the protection and value creation of the company’s R&D pipeline, enabling informed decision-making across the product lifecycle; from early research to development and commercialization.

Key Responsibilities

· Support the development and management of the patent portfolio in alignment with R&D and business priorities

· Assess patentability by analysing scientific data and identifying novel and inventive concepts

· Define and implement patent filing and prosecution strategies in line with pharmaceutical development needs

· Proactively identify and capture new intellectual property through strong interaction with Discovery and R&D teams

· Support the development and lifecycle of innovative pharmaceutical products

· Conduct freedom-to-operate (FTO), infringement, and validity analyses to support project development and risk mitigation

· Provide clear, pragmatic, and business-focused IP advice to internal stakeholders

· Contribute to IP due diligence activities and support business initiatives

· Review scientific publications, presentations, and external communications to ensure appropriate IP protection

· Promote IP awareness and foster best practices across R&D and business teams

Your Profile

· Fully qualified Patent Attorney (European and/or national qualification)

· Ph.D. in Chemistry, Life Sciences, Pharmacy or a related discipline

· 5–10 years of experience in intellectual property, ideally within pharma or biotech

· Solid expertise in patent law, prosecution, and IP strategy

· Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and managing external counsels

· Ability to understand complex scientific data and translate it into effective IP strategies

· Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a high level of attention to detail

· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex IP topics into clear business insights

· Exposure to patent litigation, opposition, or regulatory exclusivities is a plus

· Fluent in English (written and spoken)
